WalMart Drug Program

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) said Thursday it is expanding its $4 generic prescription program to 11 additional states and adding 17 more prescriptions to the program.

The world's largest retailer added 502 stores to those offering the discounted medications. The new states added Thursday were Idaho, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, Washington and West Virginia. In all, Wal-Mart is offering the program in 3,009 stores in 38 states

I think this is a great idea! There is no income limit, and even if you have insurance, they will give you the price. They have a list available at the info counter at Wal-Mart. I also think I heard that K-Mart was going to match it as well.

While I agree it's a good program, and will likely help those that need help with their meds, I do have to wonder why no one on this site has raised the common BBS site flag, of "what will this do to the Little guy, (smaller pharmacy's")???

I'm sure everyone here who always supports the small business owner will have no problems going to their local pharmacy and continue to pay regular price, just to help them out right? right? wait, I don't hear anyone? is anyone there?

Ya now, in order to survive you must compete. Like K-mart and Target are doing. If the "little guy" had an $8 dollar program then I would do business with them. No reason they can't meet double the price. But it don't make sense to his my $25 co-pay for 8 meds every month (for whole family), when I can easily spend a quarter of that at Wal-Mart.

It's in affect now and when i went to get my prescription last saturday they told me it wasn't on the "list". yes they have a list of generic medicine. so i had to still pay $10 bucks(thanks to insurance) for a generic. So make sure you ask first. grssssssssssssssss
