LYNCHING: THE BLOODY RECORD
Descriptions of the problem of lynching often take on an impersonal tone until we are reminded that specific individuals die cruel deaths at the hands of mobs.
Haines family (3 members) lynched Mason Co Kentucky June 20-21 1894
Richard Coleman, in Maysville, Ky., August 6, 1899
"Richard Coleman the farm hand who ravished and murdered Mrs Mollie
Lashbrook near Maysville was taken by a crowd of citizens at Maysville and
burned to death. His eyes were first filled with vitriol; his clothes
stripped and a big fire built around him. His death was slow and wreathing
in terrible agony, he was hooted and glared at by thousands assembled. His
fate was a horrible one and yet not more terrible than was his treatment of
the poor weak victim of his criminal lust and unbridled passion."
