What should the school board officials or courts do.........

................The Ledger's story 2 days ago said the middle school was evacuated because of a bomb threat written on a wall in school.

So, my question is.......what should the officials do with the student that was turned in for that bomb threat at MCMS yesterday??

Your thoughts 1st??

I'll post my thoughts later.................see ya Mark

It really depends if he just wrote it just to write it or if he has had problems in the past...To some point kids will be kids,I think they need to check into his background.
It may have been wrote on a dare....or he could of just been bored sitting there using the bathroom.....He's 13...I remember making prank phone calls at that age...among other things....so I feel we need to make sure who this child really is before we stick him in the system and really screw him up.

The student has been arrested and is facing a possible 5-10 years.
On a personal level, I know this kid. My son has been going to school with this student since pre-school. I am having a hard time accepting 1) that this student wrote it in the first place; 2) that IF the student wrote it, that it was anything more than a 13-year old's idea of a prank. (Agreeing with coolmom, I was once 13 and prank phone calls were so fun to make!)
The student that collected the $50.00 is a rival of the student that has been arrested. Hmmm...
I really just cannot see this kid doing anything malicious , but then again, I tell myself that there had to be some type of undoubted evidence in order to make the arrest.

I have to say any threat should be taken seriously and they should be punished --What if this was real and by the time the school was evacuated the bomb blew and we lost lives innocent children...NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO THREATEN ANYONE!!! I feel this 13 yr old is old enough to know right from wrong and should be punished that way....Too many schools have children dying at the hands of other children and it is if they were taken more seriously in the beginning stages it might have been avoided...This is just my opinion .....

I don't like it either, but I can sort of understand. I too was 13, I too did stupid things as well. Not of this magnitude of course, but at 13, do/did we ever think?

This youngster needs a firm, and strong lesson here, but jail term? That will just make him worse. He needs to learn empathy, and if I was the judge, he'd be doing hard time, working with people less fortunate than him, plus being in school as well.

I'm thinking that's one problem with kids today. too many video games, not enough 'life'

I say if he is guilty make an example of him to keep this from happening again.

We need to not take these things lightly. There were so many warning signs in the last school shooting that weren't taken seriously and now there are families that have lost loved ones because it was just blown off or other kids didn't take him (the shooter) seriosly.

Also does anyone know about another recent bomb threat at school in which students were told if they didn't call their parents to come get them they would get an A on a future assignment. I was told about this by a parent and wondered if there was any truth to it. I don't have kids at Mason county but if this is true, I think it's wrong. If a child doesn't feel safe at school they shouldn't be bribed not to call their parents to come get them.

I remember being 13 too, but when we were growing up the worse thing wrote on a wall was something dirty about someone else or their phone number. Kids now a days don't have the role models we grew up with.
We were taught to respect people because we wanted to be respected.I'm not sure of prison time for this kid but he apparently needs help of some kind. I understand that kids do what they think is funny or cool but with all that has happened in the past these kids need to understand the severity of their actions. Had Ms. Cook not had previous drills to lead these kids thru then there could have been a big panic and someone could have gotten hurt. And as for this kid doing community service for someone who is less fortunate than he is, what if this kid is one of the less fortunate? What then? I don't like throwing kids into the system but any more it seems some kids want to be there. Maybe not the case with this student but there are ones out there that the system is having no luck with. but this is only my opinion, lets hear everyones. thanks.

...............if you could get past the ACLU, I would make the boy do some type of "odd humiliating" jobs around school as punishment. For starters, he would clean off his writings, then I would have him do other things like clean restrooms, empty trash cans, etc.

It would be better if he were to do these things during his "recess" at school where the other kids could see him.

In some cases humiliation works well.

That should take some of the "cool" out of him.............see ya Mark

I havr to agree with TheMan, He probably wont receive any jail time time of any kind and put him in custody of parents. Sometimes thats like telling the kids it was alright what you did because the parents dont control them. I've seen too many actuall juvenile delinquents getting out of trouble by getting house arrest and the parents arent home to make sure thats where they are, sometimes the parents are home and just dont care. I say with the 13 yr. old who did this, he should spend time in a juvenile facility ,and if not and place under house arrest if he messes up again the parents should pay. One way or another ALL people should pay for what they do, old or young.
