Roland C. Thomas
Maysville – Roland Cartmell Thomas of Dover, KY died Tuesday February 21, 2012 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Dover, KY on February 16, 1936 to the late Herman and Mattie Dietz Thomas.
Roland was an active member of the Dover Christian Church, where he served as a Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, and Song Leader. He retired from Emerson Power Transmission and was currently employed at Haney’s Hardware in Maysville.
He served his country for 2 years with the US Army Reserves 400th Quartermaster Unit of Maysville, KY, then went on to join the United States Coast Guard where he served 10 years from 1957-1967
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Blythe Thomas; 2 daughters, Glenda (Paul) Bellamy of Maysville, Pam (Joe) Hannah of Felicity, OH; 3 grandchildren, Jeff Vice, Bryan Vice, and Joshua Hannah; 6 great-grandchildren, Alex, Gaven, Hannah, Seth, Andrew, & Ryker; and one sister Verla (Sam) Peege of Louisville.
He was preceded in death by a brother Lewis Thomas.
Roland’s first love was his family and friends, followed closely by his love of bluegrass music. Many who knew him will also remember him flying his plane over his hometown. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral Services for Roland C. Thomas will be at 2:00 pm on Friday February 24, 2012 at Brell and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Everett “Bill” Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Garden of Memories.
Visitation will be after 6:00 pm on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Vice, Bryan Vice, Joshua Hannah, Gene Blythe, Fleming Blythe and Harry Blythe.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Alex Vice, Danny Patton, Scotty Hilterbrand, Jim Steele, John Darn, R.L. Allison, Darrin Blevins, Dennis Deatley, Raymond “Doc” McFarland, Mike Poe, William Montgomery, Henry Gee, Roger Hurst, George Arthur and Thomas Hall.
