I heard someone at work talking about this happening to them a month ago but now I come home from vacation to find that my truck is missing it's catalytic converter. What is this world coming to?
I know if I see anyone around my property or vehicles from now on, it is their butt on the line.
It is time we stand up and protect what we have worked for.

I still blame the scrap dealers that buy them. They should be forced to stop buying them from individuals or at least require registration from the vehicle they came off of. If I have this right, any converter under 5 years old is a warranty item. On some manufacturers, it is even longer. No individual should be selling a converter that is under 5 years old.

I know that at Butlers you have to have a picture ID, and they take down the license plate number of your vehicle. I'm sure this won't deter everyone but it's a start.

That would work if you could identify your converter in the picture. And if you could find out what scrapyard it went to. Highly unlikely. I still don't think individuals should be able to sell converters.

Get a bog and a gun, no one else can help on this matter. They will be gone before the cops get there even if you hear them. If they catch them going out the road, if you don't have pics and maybe a casting # you can't prove it yours. Yes, if a scrap a dealer has someone come in with a truck load of new converters that should be a red flag.

I was at Bulters Recyling yesterday and now you have to have the vin# off the car to sell a converter. roadrunner

It's a sign of the times. Tough times causes people to do a lot of things they wouldn't normally do.

And tough times cause scrap dealers to buy things they shouldn't.

Tough times for me means, I cut back, earn extra income or go hungry. Doing anything illegal just because we are going through tough times is a cop out.
