We got a letter, on July 22, 2008, from Mania Tracy form Indiana:

Maysville’s Historic Transparent Pie
Recipe from: Best of the Best from Kentucky
Cookbook Heaven at Recipelink.com
Actor George Clooney, a native of Augusta, Kentucky, not only travels to Maysville to purchase transparent tarts, but has brought them to share at movie sets and television studios.

This is the recipe I got off the internet. I have not tried it yet but I will let you know how it turns out. But keep on making those pies! Love them!

Dear Mania Tracy and others.
I like to thank Mania Tracy for letting us know where on the web transparent can be found. This is not the formula we use at the bakery. Each family has had there own way of making transparent pie for over 200 year. There is no right or wrong way to bake transparent.
I hope ever ones Transparent Pie turns out. Do not worry. We will keep on baking our way.
Take care
Russell Dickson of Magee’s Bakery in Maysville, KY.

I gotta to give props to my late mother.......her t-pies rocked. The recipe was different. I know this because they didn't have the same dark color as other pies. They were more a gold color

AMEN, Cobra. Magee's rules the transparents!!!!!!!!

ALWAYS HAS & PROBABLY ALWAYS WILL.
I worked with a black man several years ago at E.P.T. that told me he was a Baker at Magee's YEARS AGO prior to coming too E.P.T. and he told me that he would write down the recipe and give to me and I kept forgetting to ask him to do this prior to his passing away a few years ago. Sure wish that I had kept after him to give me his recipe, He told me that he made them for years while at the Market Street location, This was many years ago.
