Gov. Steve Beshear issued and executive order to return the Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement to its core mission as the primary agents of driver and vehicle compliance and safety.
This reorganization is estimated to save almost $1 million annually because of efficiences like reducing fuel costs, eliminating duplicate operations and centralizing offices and facilities.
The agency will maintaine its identity, rank and the uniforms and cars will not change.

Correct me if I am wrong but a few years back KVE was like police that specialized in Tractor Trailor type vehicles. Then they did a study and found most accidents involving Semi,s were a result of errors from automobiles such as faulty equipment on cars, bad drivers, etc. Thats when they went from DOT to KVE and started targeting all vehicles of all makes and sizes with an emphasis on safety features such as brake lights, headlights, and other stuff to make sure people were up to code. And now KVE will be back to mostly being Tractor Trailor enforcement again working in weight stations and things like that.
I dont think it will have much effect on Local KVE seeing as we dont have weigh stations on the AA.
Is that right or not???

Your local KVE officer probably won't be seen in the area. They will be working Stations on 64/75 and the like...

The theory is that trucking companies have deep pockets.

Years ago, I got pulled over by a KVE dude. He flipped his lights on, but that didn't bother me as there was a truck that was in front of me. I slowed down, got over as far as I could, but he didn't pass. Truck slowly moved on. I finally pulled over and was surprised that he pulled in behind me. I asked why HE was pulling me over. I got a lecture on how he had more power than any police officer because he didn't need a reason to pull a person over. He pulled me over to check my temp tags on a vehicle I just bought. That was in '81.
A few short years later, KVE gave a ticket to a passenger vehicle. That made it to the Kentucky Supreme court. KSC threw it out and stated that the KVE could only pull over commercial vehicles. KVE mad. State troopers glad.
Fast forward to sometime in the 90s. KVE pulls over a passenger vehicle and arrests the driver for DUI. That made it to the KSC. KSC rescinded the earlier decision and stated the KVC were just another police agency. State troopers mad. KVE glad.
So Beshear returns KVE to its core duty? Originally, it was enforcement of weight and safety laws for commercial vehicles only. Sounds like all he is doing is taking them off the road and opening up the empty weigh stations. No change in their "police" powers. I haven't heard if the KSP is glad or mad on this one.
There are no weigh stations on a lot of major roads. I'm not sure I like this direction.

Weigh stations are just the tip of the iceburg. Brakes, air lines, exhausts, tires, log books and a hundred other things $$$$$

If they open up the weigh stations then we will have more overweight, unsafer, and no log booked trucks comming thru Maysville to avoid the weight stations.
Dont get me wrong I am not harping on the truckers eventhough my wife got ran over by a Mack Truck while sitting at a stop light I know the majority of accidents involving big trucks are from some of error from the car/car driver and not the trucks. I just think that areas like here in Maysville need some form of KVE here to check on these things.

The merger will not effect the road officer or their duties, most of the changes are at the top end. I will still be on the road and very much in the area. The weigh stations are staffed and operated by inspectors and clerks, not road officers. We have a vital and import role of safety enforcement on the open highway in regards to 'all' traffic, specializing in commercial vehicles. My enforcement activity for 2007 was a ratio of 7:1 of commercial traffic to non. My current ratio for 2008 is currently 8:1.

For a while I was thinking they had you in a weigh station somewhere and wouldn't let you go. Glad to see you are back among the living!!!!!

You know it kind of sounds like there are a few of us at least that would be slightly upset if our KVE officer were to be reassigned so to speak! lol Glad you're not going anywhere! BTW, I have a question for you, but I won't ask on here. Boy I bet some wheels are turning in some people's heads after that statement! lol

Nope, it was that red Jeep I turned into an unholy terror. I just had bought that CJ. It originally came with a four banger in it. After I "modified" it, would get to 100 mph quicker that than the TA could. On a side note. I'm kinda glad the KVE is still around. Speeders don't bother me. Unsafe and overweight trucks do. Just take a look at all the tire recaps that fly off those trucks. The farm truck we used to have had recaps on the back. Never a problem. Put too much weight on them and they heat up and come off.
