With gas prices high and no sign of coming down anytime soon, what would be some things that the Maysville or Mason County area residents would like to see:
New entertainment options locally?
New Restaurants and if so what kind?
More childrens/youth activities?
More adult oriented activities(not the XXX kind)? :bathbaby:
Or if you can think of something else I would love to hear it.

As far as restuarants goes I would like to see a good steakhouse like Outback or Texas Roadhouse and an Olive Garden would be nice.

Look, not to put a damper on the wishing for new restaurants, and more group activities. But, where is the money going to come from to build the new restaurants? Then after you have your new stake house who are you going to get to work in it. Then where are you going to find the people to buy the food. A lot of the jobs around the parts only pay minimum wage. After the gas for the car, house bills, and taxes, eating out at a high price restaurant is just not in the budget. That even after working two job, I know a lot of people are doing that the days. So, after working 60 to 80 hours work weeks, who has the energy to go to a restaurant?
Besides, Mason County has lots of good restaurants. Very good mom and pop places, that would love to see more people. Why would you want to eat at a copy franchise place?
Now, about group activities, I am sure there would be more of them if more people would volunteer. But, once more, who has the time or energy.
I think what more people need to do is rest. Take naps. Enjoy your life. That my opinion.

An Olive Garden would be great! But Outback or Texas Roadhouse are not my idea of a good steakhouse. I'd rather see a Mom & Pop type place without all the hype.

Let's not forget that the Maysville area serves seven counties. There are a lot of people out there to serve. Many area restaurants that I don't much care for are nevertheless constantly packed.
Certainly there is a limit to how much the area can support, but that doesn't mean there isn't a demand for good food. The Courtyard on Cherry Alley had great business, but there apparently was some management problems. But a restaurant of that quality is desperately needed, and clearly locals would support it.
It's a sad fact of life that there is an unemployment problem in the area, and yet restaurants can't find servers who can adequately do the job. Being a waiter or waitress at a decent restaurant is a highly skilled, demanding job. My experience is that many in the area aren't up to it. Perhaps this is an area where the community college could offer classes.

Wouldn't that be great? Remember when they moved from down on the viaduct and only had 4 (I think) tables, how glad we were for more space then. Now they could use twice the space again.

As in "Field of Dreams", Build it and they will come. Of course that is if the food is good, the service is adequate and the price is right. As in all things, if you truly want or need something, you will fight tooth and nail to get the money to make it happen. Working 2 + jobs myself, I am willing to fight for what I want and even pay a good price if the quality and quantity is right.
As far as finding people to work, it comes down to finding people who have respect for themselves and a true desire to serve. In service is where we find our reward. There are many different areas of service, and we each have to find our niche.
As for having many restaurants already, VARIETY is the spice of life. How are you going to know how good something is if you have nothing to compare it to? Plus a little competition has always been a motivator in bringing UP quality, service and availability while taking DOWN price.
I am all for volunteers and volunteering for a worthy cause. The problem comes from finding the right activity or qualified individuals to head up or manage such things, but they are out there.

I agree with the kid's movie night, that would be fun.
I would also like to see a Chuck E Cheese. I think that they would do good business around here. It is great for b-day parties and just for fun. A Golden Coral would also be good, the Golden Coral we had before was little, and it wasn't half as the good ones out there. I still say a Chuck E Cheese would be perfect for our area.

Annie if i am not mistaking you live in Lewisburg. I am a member of the LVFD and on the events commitee. What types of things would you like us to do. We actually do enjoy putting on entertainment for the community. Most VFDs enjoy it as well. We like to meet and know our member of our community and basicly want to do thing to say thank you for supporting us. I know many of us would like to do more then the basic fish fry or pancake breakfast. I am in the process of planning our second pig roast. This year we are planning a cruise in for entertainment to go along with the pig roast.
My question for everyone is what other events could VFDs plan to get you out of the house and meet you neighbors. And sorry but I dont think we could build a redlobster.

Dont worry we are not going to stop the pancake breakfast or the fish fry. But I would like to know what else we could do to get the public out for meet n greets. I would like to see us do something monthly that doesent require a lot of man powerer to do.
Since we are talking about VFDs I would also like to encourage i think all VFDs in the area could use some more members. no you dont get paid and it is kind of an expensive hobby but it is something to do. I think more people need to volunteer to do things such as lions club, VFDs, or what ever. If you or anyone you know would like to join any VFD in the county let me know and I will get you in contact with the department of your choice.
And i am not a spokes person for LVFD but Thanks for your support Annie

But yes, instead of more resturants, we need more places of entertainment, community get togethers, and MORE JOBS!!!

Hey Brian, the horse shows are nice. What about a cornhole? Seems like people are into that these days. I remember years ago my friends parents used to go up to the fire hall and play Euchre in the fall and winter. Do they still do that there? My husband and my dad would eat there every week for the fish fry's and the pancakes...lol.

My Votes:
New entertainment options locally? Better Sports Bar like BW3 or A place where adults can got to play trivia, virtual golf, etc. Also more river recreation: Better dock, bar/gas on the river. Waverunner rentals and a recreation supply store. What about a frisbee golf course?
New Restaurants and if so what kind? Logans Roadhouse, Dakota's, anything Italian, Country cooking store like Dinner Bell, Chipolte, Red Lobster. A cold stone creamery!
More childrens/youth activities? thie is very much needed. Would like to see a Chuck E. Cheese type concept come here. We also need a larger youth attraction are for our teenagers. Could consist of a Bowling Alley, Arcade, old fashioned hamburger soda shop and ice cream bar.
More adult oriented activities(not the XXX kind)? a small venue that could hold dinner shows such as murder mysteries, variety shows, small concerts.
That's my take!

Before they get bigger, they need to get better! We have not been there for months because you either get good food, bad service, or good service bad food. It use to be the one place you could go to and know that the food would be hot and delicious as well as great service. I have not been impressed the last few times we did go in there and if you complain they say the manager is not there or they will call him. There should always be someone there to make a decision on how to handle complaints. My family is not the only one having this problem there I have heard it from other people as well!

BW3 is a national sports bar chain that specializes in Wings & Rings. It's a great place to go to watch sport events with your friends. They always have trivia going on also.. Oh yeah, it is a pretty good bar as well..

Don't know if this has been mentioned but maybe a movie night, bring a blanket and watch with the family and the fire dept. could sell refreshments. Maybe a local band or group before the movie, like Manchester is doing. Went to one of these about every night when we were in Virginia Beach several years ago and they always had a great turn out.

With Fall approaching, I think it would be great to get a festival started. We have no Court Days anymore so I would like to see something like Cincinnati has, The Taste of Cincinnati or something more area related. We have lots of good cooks around this part and I think a place to sample all the different treats, sweets, and everything else would be a great way to get some interest back into the area.
Any thoughts?
