Seems like the break-ins in Maysville are starting to get worse. I used to feel really safe here, but I am starting to worry. According to the Ledger: another business in downtown Maysville was burglarized sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, with the suspects getting away with two Dell laptop computers. MPD dispatch received a call at 7:25 a.m., Tuesday of a burglary at Pennyrile Allied Service, located in the Cochran Building on Stanley Reed Court Street. The paper states that the suspect(s) kicked out the panel of the office door, took the computers and discharged a fire extinguisher as they exited the building.
I hope the suspects are caught soon!

This makes twice now that they've used a fire extinguisher.....same person or a copycat??? Hope the MPD or MSCO catch them.

Sad, when people work hard to get the things they want only to have someone break into their house and steal it. Is it that much of an inconvenience to get a job? I'm sure the MPD or the MSCO will catch them. But it really makes one think about how safe they are in their own home.

I wish that the police would put as much effort in to catching thieves and drug dealers as they do inforcing seat belt laws. What would curtail these thefts is for two or three of these thieves to get shot.

Maybe they had a lojack system in the laptop.......that would be cool.

Actually, Tuesday marked the fourth break-in using the fire extinguisher M.O. Kinda sketchy if you ask me. What's wrong with these people???
I guess they got tired of getting dirty taking Catalytic Converters.

It's easier for them to steal everything than get a job!!!!

Oh then someone would cry that their "civil liberties" were violated if they were shot. That or unnecessary force was used.

It is a can't win situation.

With first hand knowledge of the MPD and how they conduct themselves, I can attest that we should consider ourselves lucky to have them. They work hard and are good at what they do.
It's not a lack of enforcment but increase in opportunities and criminals that we are seeing right now.

Its not a lack of enforcment???? HUH. I know first hand that there aren't that many officers on duty during the middle of the night and the ones who are on duty are busy.

We do need more cops. How much you willing to pay? More cops=more taxes on the citizens. This area doesn't have enough. People complain about speeders on the hill, and the city has them patrol that area. Then the vandals come out. In order to have lower taxes, you have to put up with a small force. But your really not saving anything. Your insurance is adjusted for your area. You're gonna pay, in one way or another, if you have cops or not. Peace in the neighborhood is not free. Even vigilantes have ammo costs.

Perhaps more people need to take things into their own hands and protect what they own...If a homeowner catches a thief in action, I'm all for them being able to shoot that person. In other states this is certainly working to deter theft, for example ,the Castle Law is doing wonders in Texas for thieves.

That might work if your home. These burglars made sure there was no one around. Most home robberies are that way. Silent alarms and a crime watch program is about the only way to catch them in the act. Cops can't be everywhere even if there are hundreds of them. They need your help. And will thank you for any they get.

Not a big fan of guns but I do acknowledge the right of an individual to have one. Pulling the trigger on someone would be a last alternative but I still want the alternative. If someone is desperate or fearless enough to break into a residence or business, only God knows what else they are capable of. I don't believer in vigilanties but maybe the community needs to step up and have some kind of community watch program.

I agree about the community watch program... it seems like a sub division down past Jubilee started one for their area. I think it was the division by the Licking Valley Senior building. I wonder how that it is working out?

The fact is the police need community support. Its time people start helping out the police. I think Maysville does need more police. I hate to bring up a old subject but just think of how far the $300,000 for the cox building would have went tworeds the salary of an officer or two. It would have allmost paid the salary of another officer for about ten years. But even with an aditional officer or two the most effective way is for community support. I do think that they do an excelent job and make the best of what they have.

I agree completely, what officers we have do an excellent job with the resources at their disposal. And of course the community should always support the people that are there to protect them and their loved ones.

Anyone interested in setting up a community watch program should contact Sgt. Chris Neal of MPD. He handles all of them and did a great job with the one in the East end of town. He is willing to come to your meetings on or off the clock in order to establish these programs.
Don't complain, be proactive people...

Very nicely stated Jimmy.
