Bolton: Israel Will Strike Iran if Obama is Elected

Wednesday, June 25, 2008 4:32 PM

By: Rick Pedraza Article Font Size

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton believes Israel will stage a raid against Iran's nuclear facilities if Democratic nominee Barack Obama wins the upcoming presidential election in November.

Bolton, often labeled a resolute neo-conservative, believes the Israeli attack would take place sometime between the day after Obama's win and his inauguration on January 20 of next year.

In an interview with FOX News, Bolton says, "I think if they are to do anything, the most likely period is after our elections and before the inauguration of the next President."

Bolton reasons Israel won’t be able to hold off a strike on Iran any longer than that given the Illinois senator's intended foreign policy toward the Islamic Republic.

"I don’t think they [the Israeli government] will do anything before our election because they don’t want to affect it,” he says, adding, “They’d have to make a judgment whether to [strike] during the remainder of President Bush’s term in office or wait for his successor."

Bolton points to Obama’s statements in which he says he would engage Iran in direct talks and take the military option for dealing with Iran's quest for nuclear weapons off the table, a position he believes will further embolden Tehran to build a nuclear bomb.

In a related interview with The Telegraph, Bolton says he believes Arab countries will support an Israeli strike, effectively ending Iran's nuclear ambitions, while publicly denouncing it.

Their reaction, he tells the British paper, "will be positive privately. I think there'll be public denunciations, but no action."

Bolton thinks Israel may consider postponing the attack, however, if Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., emerges as the victor in the presidential race. He says McCain's stance on Iran “is far more realistic than that of the Bush administration.”

Bolton doubts Iran would respond immediately with a counterstrike of its own, partially because Tehran would fear an American reprisal.

Earlier this month, Israel held a massive air force exercise over Greece that U.S., Israeli and Greek sources later confirmed was a test run for a strike on Iran's main uranium enrichment plant.

More election propaganda. Got to love it. Iran will kick Israel's butt and get the USA involved in another war.

Ok, can someone tell me what Bolton is smoking? Or snorting? For it sounds like something I'd like; Something that gives people this incredible sense of well-being, and knowledge of the future.

That same sort of horse-plop is very similar to what Bush said before he drug us into his personal vendetta; Doesn't anyone remember him saying "They'll greet us like liberators"?

Yeah, I noticed the flowers they stuck in our M16s. Pretty ones too.

We're already destorying ourselves in a 2 front war. Even Hitler didn't do a 3 front war! Which is probably what will happen if Israel attacks Iran.

I swear...no. Not here, but do we need to see any more of our troops come home in body bags, when we cannot deal with what is going on now?

IF Israel does attack and IF we stay out of it, we will pay a high price. A barrel of oil will go even higher if this happens. So we will pay even if we don't use troops. We could bring this to a halt if we wanted by telling Israel we won't back them. But we'd never do that with the politicians we have now in D.C. Remember, a preemptive strike is the neocons excuse for violating international law. And Israel has violated a lot of international law. Something you don't hear our politicians or "liberal" media talking about.

MADRID, Spain (AP) - An attack on Iran would provoke a fierce response, the country's oil minister warned Wednesday at the World Petroleum Congress in Madrid.

Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari, however, said Tehran would not cut oil deliveries and would continue supplying the market even if struck by Israel or the United States.

Tehran "is not going to be quiet," if attacked, Nozari told reporters. It's "going to react fiercely, and nobody can imagine what would be the reaction of Iran," he added

THE top U.S. military commander has just said that a strike on Iran by Israel or the U.S. would be a very bad idea. He also said we should be talking to Iran, backing what Obama has been calling for. It also makes McCain's statements of Obama being inexperienced and with reckless judgment to hold talks ring hollow. It's highly unusual for a top military commander to rebuke his commander-in-chief.

NEWS FROM IRAQ

London's Sunday Times called it "the culmination of one of the most spectacular victories of the war on terror." A terrorist force that once numbered more than 12,000, with strongholds in the west and central regions of Iraq, has over two years been reduced to a mere 1,200 fighters, backed against the wall in the northern city of Mosul.

The destruction of al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI) is one of the most unlikely and unforeseen events in the long history of American warfare. We can thank President Bush's surge strategy, in which he bucked both Republican and Democratic leaders in Washington by increasing our forces there instead of surrendering.

We can also thank the leadership of the new general he placed in charge there, David Petraeus, who may be the foremost expert in the world on counter-insurgency warfare. And we can thank those serving in our military in Iraq who engaged local Iraqi tribal leaders and convinced them America was their friend and AQI their enemy.

Al-Qaida's loss of the hearts and minds of ordinary Iraqis began in Anbar Province, which had been written off as a basket case, and spread out from there.

Now, in Operation Lion's Roar the Iraqi army and the U.S. 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment is destroying the fraction of terrorists who are left. More than 1,000 AQI operatives have already been apprehended.

Sunday Times reporter Marie Colvin, traveling with Iraqi forces in Mosul, found little AQI presence even in bullet-ridden residential areas that were once insurgency strongholds, and reported that the terrorists have lost control of its Mosul urban base, with what is left of the organizationhaving fled south into the countryside.

Meanwhile, the State Department reports that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government has achieved "satisfactory" progress on 15 of the 18 political benchmarks — a big change for the better from a year ago.

Things are going so well that Maliki has even for the first time floated the idea of a timetable for withdrawal of American forces. He did so while visiting the United Arab Emirates, which over the weekend announced that it was forgiving almost $7 billion of debt owed by Baghdad — an impressive vote of confidence from a fellow Arab state in the future of a free Iraq.

But where are the headlines and the front-page stories about all this good news? As the Media Research Center pointed out last week, "the CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 were silent Tuesday night about the benchmarks" that signaled political progress.

The war in Iraq has been turned around 180 degrees both militarily and politically because the president stuck to his guns. Yet apart from IBD, Fox News Channel and parts of the foreign press, the media don't seem to consider this historic event a big story.

Hmmm. Where is the story about Maliki's demand for U.S. troops to start withdrawing? ALL troops. Ending Bush's dream of a permanent base in Iraq. If that story is about how successful we are, why aren't we listening to Iraq's demand to get out? They want us to go. Time to leave. But we just won't go, will we? Once again, not our country. Yet we treat it like a possession. We "need" it to attack Iran. But then again, the troops aren't coming home. They're going to Afghanistan. To continue fighting that war we supposedly won. All we're doing is killing one monstrous regime and installing another. Again. We never learn. Some morals we have.

Ha! Me? The voters wouldn't like me or they would be putting Ron Paul in the White House! Then again, I'd reinstate the draft. The voters might not be so gung ho on these over seas adventures if their families might be involved. Plus a war tax. That way, the ones that profit from these wars won't make any money. Let's see how gung ho they are when there's no money in it. Just their obligation and duty. Just those two things would bring all this madness to a halt.

Victory in Iraq will forever change the face of the Middle East. President Bush will be honored in history for his ability to hold firm and understand that war is **** but it sure beats having a bunch of fanatics kill us all. The left in this great Country have committed nothing short of treason just for political gain. The news media has reported only bad news and attempted to downplay the threat of terrorism. How quickly we forget. Barry Hussein Obama would be a disaster for our national security. He is an empty suit controlled by big money lefties like George Soros. Instead of people listening to the propaganda spewed forth by the left, do research, get facts,,then make a decision. We cannot and should not stand by and watch Israel destroyed by a tin-horn dictator. The war on terror will go on for a long time and to deny this is to place all of us in jeopardy. We will either promote democracy in the Middle East or live with the consequences. What we have in Iran today is a direct result of the incompetent Carter admin. and his failed policies. Barry Hussein seems to be on the same road.

“Don’t think that a few years of liberals in charge is that dangerous? Just take a moment to consider what liberals dream of doing once they gain absolute power. There is no aspect of our lives—none—that today’s liberals concede is off limits to the meddling use of government power. In their vision there is no dividing line between the public sphere and the private sphere. Limited government is a concept that makes no sense to them... Energy policies are just the tip of the iceberg—although control over energy gives government control over pretty much the entire economy already. In a world run by liberals literally no aspect of our lives will be outside the legitimate regulation of government. That is because anything—even what temperature you like to keep your house—can be turned into a matter of legitimate public concern. Everything we do, including breathing, eating and of course procreating, can be argued to have an impact on those around us or20the great mother earth. And if it affects others, it can and should be regulated by those who know best, at least according to the liberals. Liberals want to regulate just about everything: where we live, what fuels we use, what car we drive, whether we can drive or be forced to use government mass transit, where we send our kids to school, what doctor we see, and even to what extent we express our approval or disapproval of others’ lifestyles. It’s hard to find something liberals don’t want to regulate. Is that a world you want to live in?” —David Strom

Oh good lord. The liberal mantra is a cry the conservatives use to hide the fact of what they're really up to. Once again, bone up on history. War mongering conservatives have destroyed every country they ruled through bankruptcy. Some no longer exist. And the people cheered them on until the collapse came. Those are facts, not mantra. Look at a true hard core conservative mantra. No Social Security, Medicare, Medicade, Welfare, work rules, EPA, OSHA, etc. Anything that stands in the way of a business of making a profit is verboten. Work 'till you drop. Average age of countries like this is around 50. Ours used to be like that. According to some, they still want it that way. So, go to your employer and give back that health care! Demand to work 80 hours a week for 2 bucks an hour! Throw out those silly safety rules! Give back your vacation and live the true life of a conservative. It's all for the company now! If your lucky enough to have the 2 buck an hour job. Otherwise, starve. That's the true conservative way. Don't worry about the kids. They tend to die within the first few years of life. And conservatives need the healthy ones to plunder other countries. It hasn't been that long ago that it was actually like that in this country. Those nasty liberals put a stop to that. They actually had the gall to think of the little people. Durn do gooders.

Of course we know what Iran's reaction would be...NOTHING, just like Saddam. He blew like a huge wind, then hid like a rat when the troops showed up. Let Israel attack them, then the U.S. won't have to and lose any other troops.

Way off topic, but the one thing I like about "pseudo conservatives" is this. The love to rant about the liberal things they don't like but won't bring up the liberal things they do like. That, or they forgot what the liberals did for them. How many would like to do away with the 40 hour work week? Or the laws against discrimination? How many like getting clean tap water from the faucet? Everyone here has a better workplace from the liberals who fought and died for what you now take for granted. And the neo cons redistribute wealth also. Not with taxes, low wages is what they use. It ends up the same. No money in the bottom 95% of the country. It's just the top 5% keeps even more. Even that's not enough for them. They use our military to plunder other countries. If you'd just quit watching Fox news with their enemy at the gates stories and and actually learn what is really happening in the world, you might just realize what the neo cons are telling you are pure lies. Turn off Fox news and study history. This scenario has been played out many times before. I'll give ya a hint. Every superpower in the history of the world lost playing the same game we're playing right now. And the people cheered until the neo cons' house of cards collapsed around them.

"Redistribution of wealth" - From the working class to the extremely rich.

"socialized medicine" - No Medical Insurance, Lets save the Iraqis and let Americans Die.

Ha! Just havin' fun. If you were a liberal, I'd be arguing the other side. And I'd have a tough time. I'll give liberals one thing. They state up front what they want. The neo cons hide behind lies. It's hard for me to defend them. Actually, if you have the time, take a good hard look at the Libertarian Party. It's the mantra that the pubs claim to be. And what a lot of Republican voters think they get when they elect them. But they are actually against everything the Libertarian Party stands for. In my twisted mind, you can't be for more government, less freedom, more laws, deficit spending, foreign interventions and call yourself a Republican. But then again, throughout history, the people loved seeing people tortured to death, thrown to the lions, drawn a quartered, burned at the stake, etc. Crowds flocked to these events. I guess history doesn't change. That's why the Republican voters cheer our military on to go to foreign countries killing the "enemy". And they elect politicians to keep the killing going. On and on and on and on and on....
