......... you remember seeing at the Russell??
( I'm sure some of the younger ones here probably
didn't get to visit the Russell. )
I'll start.
I took my brand new date ( I'll even tell you her name--Jayna Roberson ) to see a tear jerker called " A Star is Born" sometime in 1976.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075265/
It had Kris Kristofferson & Barbara Streisand in it.
The only thing I remember about the flick was Kristofferson died at the end.
It made all the girls cry in the theatre.
Anyone else remember the Russell? ............see ya mark

I watched several movies at the Russell. Last one I remember watching was JAWS in the mid 70's. I can still remember when the head fell out of the hole in the boat. Man, those days were great!

"Jaws" is the one that sticks in my mind, and it was the scene "spinsdiscs" mentioned that cemented it there. The entire theatre crowd seemed to gasp or scream, and jump in unison and you could hear them still talking about it on the way out after the movie.
I always enjoyed the setting/decor in the Russell. It was like being somewhere far away, yet cozy.

My grandfather was the 'ticket taker' there for years, and my mom even worked the concession stand for a while. Sometimes when my mom had to work her regular job, my youngest brother and I would get to see a movie. We felt special 'cause we would get to sit in the box seats in the corner--of course that's so Pappaw could keep an eye on us better--haha. I, too, loved the decor--it seemed almost magical.

I have two. The Greatest Story Ever Told in 1965. I went with my class from Woodleigh and remember walking out of the theater and trying to conceal my tears. Roustabout in 1964. It was my 9th birthday and my Mom loaded me and three of my friends on the bus for the ride downtown to the Russell. I remember some pretty cool motorcycle scenes in that movie and of course, Elvis.

I remember going to the movies on saturday and they would pick someone from the crowd to come up on stage and try to open the chest full of toys, they would give you a set of keys that were so big and you only had a minute. I was chosen once and I was so nervous needless to say no toys.

Urban Cowboy stands out because we had an earthquake while the movie was playing. John Travolta was riding the mechanical bull and the Russell started to shake. My date thought it was a prop.....I sure do miss her...lol

I also remember going on Saturdays and the chest of toys, but I was never chosen to try to open it.
My most memorable movie there was the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve. The place was so packed people were sitting in the aisles on the floor. I think that was 1978.
I also remember seeing Rough Cut with Burt Renyolds at the Russell and I remember seeing Urban Cowby there, I was on a first date with a boy I was madly in love with at ther time. It was not Victor McKay, just so you all will know. It was a Friday night, and the earthquake happened on a Sunday, so..... I remember that because I was with a couple of friends in the Sundry Store which was on upper Market at the time and everything was falling off the shelves so we ran out and went up to third street and everyone was running out of the Russell and we thought there must have been an explosion in the Russell

I forgot about Rocky. Now that was a blast. The whole place was going crazy. I went with a friend of mine, Billy Goldsmith. After the movie, he jogged home. Shadow boxing all the way!

I think the first movie I saw there was called Two a Penny & that was in the early 70s. But my favorite memory was one of the zombie movies; maybe Dawn of the Dead. While that movie was playing, Maysville had a tornado warning. Now I don't know which was scarier for me, going down into that creepy basement or the tornado. The boys were all pretending to be zombies. Spiders were all over the place too.

I know I was in the Russel, but I have no idea what was playing at the time. I just remember the stars in the ceiling, and wanting to someday go in the balconies :)

I remember going when I was very young and always gazing at the stars and the balcony and thinking it was a palace, wishing I lived there. I'm thinking we took pop bottle caps or something to get in sometimes. As an early teen the one I'll never forget was JAWS. My girlfriend had been before and warned us about the head. Her sister and I had a pop in one hand and popcorn in the other, waiting on the head and by golly when it happened we both through our hands up and everything went flying. Later another friend and I went to see ON GOLDEN POND, I loved that movie.

The one I remember was a movie call “Where the Red Fern Grows”. Sort of a two for one “Ol’ Yeller”, that is two dogs die at the end. I cried.
Saw “Binge” in the Russell. “Willy Wanka”. Then there was movie about big foot.
The last movie I think I saw at the Russell was, “The Nightmare before Christmas”.

I remember the last movie I saw there was "STAR WARS"!!! My big sister (who was my whole world then) decided to be kind and borrow Mom's car to take her bratty little sister to see that awesome movie!! I know I went a lot of other times, but nothing stuck in my mind like Star Wars and my big sis taking me out and going to eat at Pasquales afterwards!! It was so awesome with the big screen and big sound!!
I remember looking up at the stars and balcony also. I spooked myself thinking there were ghosts up on the balcony, LOL. I kept watching up there to see if I could see one.
