View Full Version : Crotch Rockets gettin under my skin

I was going to post this in law enforcement, but couldn't. So here it is.

I have called the Maysville Police office several times reporting of people on crotch rocket bikes driving in excess of 80 mph in a 45 mph zone popping wheelies. The lat time I called the dispatcher could here the high pitched wine over the phone and said he'd have some one right out. Did any one show up? No. After I placed the call the activity continued for another 30 minutes or so, until it started getting dark. What would happen if my son was playing in the yard and one of these, I'll be nice here, people lost control of the bike, came into my yard and hit my son? If the bike crash didn't kill the rider, I would. Something has to be done about this. They do it in the straight stretch, turn around and do it on the way back. I think it is almost time to put a rope across the road!

I know what you mean, just drive out the AA toward germantown, it happens out on the highway all the time.

I know very well what you are talking about, the biggest percentage of riders on these so-called crotch rockets (Sport Bikes) ride like freaking idiots, they give a bad name to any and all cycle riders because of the stunts they pull on their bikes, anytime that I see them pull a wheelie while running anywhere from 60 to 80 miles per hour makes me so mad that I almost want them to turn over backwards because of them being so **** stupid and not thinking about their future of living the rest of their lives in a wheel chair or maybe not living at all. I have owned and ridden 8 or 9 bikes since 1976 and have never wanted to ride on just the back wheel. Each time I witness their stupid tricks I often wonder what other people that have never owned or ridden a motorcycle think when they see this. This sure gives us other bike riders a bad name. These very high speed wheelies happen quiet often between Washington & Mayslick on US 68.

I just lost a good friend and father of two little girls last Saturday on US 52. He had been on a bike ride to raise money for a worthy cause when he lost control just above Stuart Station in a slight curve. Seem like the people who ride th crotch rockets don't know how to ride at or under the speed limit. There was another one on Clark street last summer who lost control and bailed off. The bike struck one of my renters car. Guess what? He had a brand new bike with not a dime of insurance. There was $2500.00 in damages to the car the bike was a total. My renter was paid three days latter in cash for the damages, as for the bike I never heard about it but would be willing to bet it was financed.

They ride like idiots even out here on top of Orangeburg Rd. It's posted at 45, but they are doing every bit of 60 plus, and they have no hope of stopping should someone pull out in front of them. I think they like taking the curves as fast as they can push it. Stupid. I've been riding for many years now, and like others I've never felt compelled to ride on one wheel. Went to Sturgis one year and had a group of about 25 crotch rockets go by with some driving with no hands to others letting their girls stand up behind them. Foolish if you ask me, but hey...I guess at their age they still have that invincible complex.

Sportbike Ban Considered in Maryland

Delegate Bill Bronrott is motioning to make sportbikes illegal in the state of Maryland following a high-speed police chase which caused the deaths of two people and injuries to 15 others. Bronrott stated that sportbikes are "wreaking havoc on our roadways" and should be banned altogether on public roads. The crash that sparked the movement for a possible ban occurred when police were chasing a speeding sportbike. One of the police cars collided with an SUV casing it to flip over a guardrail and into the oncoming traffic. The motorcyclist was not directly involved with the crash, but never the less Bronrott feels that the sportbike is the culprit. "It is definitely worth looking into whether or not we should totally ban these from our public roads." as he was quoted by the Associated Press.

They do the same thing on bull creek. I'm waiting for one to end up in the creek in front of our garage or even become a hood ornament for one of the dumptrucks or semi's that travel the road. The sad thing is it doesn't take much to get a motorcycle license these days.

We have the same problem where I live. I see these sport bikes go by on the back wheel, front wheel or no wheels on the ground. The KSP told me that the route the bikes ride thru this area is listed in a bike magazine as a good route to ride(curves, hills, & etc.). They wreck about a 1/2 mile from my house 2 or 3 times a month in a bad curve. I heard the last one died.
It not only the sports bikes here that's a problem its also the Harley riders with the loud exhaust on their bikes. I guess when you by a Harley the first thing you do is take the exhaust off. If I run my car with the headers open I would get a ticket. Whats the difference? Where I live in nice weather its like living by a drag strip Fri. thru Sun. except holiday weekends then its thru Mon. too.....................roadrunner

I agree it apears that the only "epidemic" we have is a ban epidemic. Banning thing has never worked and in most cases only cause bigger problems. Look at the prohibition of alcahol or banning of alcahol. it like most bans didnt work and caused other problems that were worse then what was being banned in the first place. All of this was just because a few people didnt like alcahol and because of their "opinion". Opinions should never make laws or ordinances.

Especially if there is a big herd of 'em. At 4 bucks for gas, beats rocketing in a muscle car gobbling gas like the old days. At least a bike doesn't tear up too much when they wreck. Nature will weed out the stupid and unskilled. Far be it from me if they want to kill themselves. Until then, I'll enjoy the show.

"Dumb" Well lets see - My 357 mag has never broken out of its gun case and attacked anyone, My wife has not been chased in our house by a sports bike, or my 357 mag, I don`t smoke but I`ve never been attacked by someones smoke, I`ve never heard of anyone being bit by someones smoke. Now could it be because my gun, sport bikes or someones smoke does not have brain or any type of body parts to walk, talk, show aggression. My gun stays where I put it, my dog on the other hand I have to control him because he has a brain. The guns, sport bikes, smoke, big rigs that you mentioned are all inanimate objects unlike a dog which is animate and can make decisions on their own.
I may be insensible but I don`t think anyone should have a animal that they can`t control and infringe on my rights. Now when guns, sport bikes, big rigs, and smoke starts chasing my wife in the house then I might change my mind but until that happens as they say " It ain`t gonna happen". roadrunner
****** Double Post *********

Chuck you may be right about the 5% and I know where they ride them at, right in front of my house, and as bad as they irritate me some of these riders are entertaining. I mean if you`ve never seen these guys in action you need to at least one time. I`ve seen them ride at 1/8 mile on the rear wheel while in a curve. I`ve seen them hit the front brake and ride over 100` with the rear wheel off the ground about a foot or two. What you see these guys do on TV I can see just about every weekend standing in my front yard. roadrunner

And dog bites much like auto accidents with big rigs, or sports bikes are just that accidents, and dog bites from all dogs combined are a much lower risk to people then auto accidents from sport bikes or big rigs seperated. and All dog bites, sport bike accidents, and big rigg accidents are always a result of a human error in some way or form.
As for your wife I hate that it happend to her but like you said it was basiically because of an idiot neighbor being careless. and as for my wife that was stopped at a red light at 9 and 68 and got ran over by a 5 tandom Mack truck it was an accident and nothing she could have prevented much like your wife with the dog incident. However because of another dumb law (SEATBELT LAW) that is taking away a persons right to choose when it doesent affect anyone else had she been wearing hers that day she would be dead. Thats a fact.
Accidents happen! They shouldent but they do. Bans dont work and never have worked. Outlawing something only leads to more problems and doesent address the root cause of the problem.

Can you Prove that one breed of dog is more dangerous then another?
Can you prove that one type of bike is more dangerous then another?
Can you prove that one caliber of gun is more dangerous then another?

I will agree with you that a person should not have an animal that they can not control.

huh??????

Brian K Beckett
June 30th, 2008, 01:23 AM
huh??????

If your huh was because of confusion on my post let me try to simplify.

Accidents happen. Nothing will prevent them. Education along with regulations, enforcement, and proper punishments can reduce them.

All accidents are a result of human error in some part.

The risk of an accident involving a big rigg or a sport bike is much much greater then an accident with a dog.

And I agree with road runner that people that can not control their animals should not be allowed to own animals.

It has never been proven that one breed of dog is more dangerous then another.

It has never been proven that one style of bike (ie Sport bike or cruiser) is more danderous then the other.

It has never been proven that one caliber of gun is more dangerous then another.

What has been proven is that because of some type of careless action from a human has resulted in death or injury from all of these things and that humans are to blame and not the dogs, sports bikes, or guns. Their fore these thing should not be banned and the enforcement and punishments should be targeted only at the careless human. through both tougher regulations and stiffer penealities if need be.

Ok, for one thing, when it comes to guns, big rigs and croch rockets, yes its the people that need to be banned not the items DUH!!!! But what concerns me is while these guys are entertaining a few and that one accident takes the life of my family member or myself, it concerns my rights very much. I have family that travels in all directions on the roadways not just those not selected by the bike riders. I witnessed a crotch rocket Traveling AA Friday night that topped 100 mph. and I am not kidding you. This is ridiculous.

I just read in the paper where MPD is supposed to increase patrols throught out July and into the first of the year, maybey they can catch some of the violators and hopefully the courts will hand out the max sentencing and reduce the number of violators. If not maybe they will at least learn to not do it in public and find a deserted road to perform their insane stunts.

Here's a question from me....If these idiots on these crotch rockets are driving that fast just for fun, do we really think that they will stop for an officer of the law that is trying to pull them over? I'm no expert, but I believe if the rider wanted to they could definitely out-run the cruisers. If they're dumb enough to do wheelies and ride at an excess of over 100mph, what makes any of us think they will pay attention to our officers? Just a thought and please feel free to voice your opinion if you think I'm wrong!

Our policy is a good sense one. On duty supervisors have the final call. I will not pursue a traffic violator if I get a look at them and a license number. Nor will I pursue if they want to be idiots and drive in a way that endangers others.

Everyone of the bike accidents I have worked were alcahol releated. Had one guy hit the rock wall near the Spring house on a new Harley that still had the temp tag on it. I was first on scene and he tried to get me to help him get his bike back on the road. He was so drunk he didnt notice his front wheel was missing.

The mechanical condition I would have to say would be the next big factor but I am not the one who investigates the accident. Just my observation.

I myself am very picky about the mechanical condition of my bike. If I go to get on and go for a ride and the tire is flat I wont mess with pumping it up I go get a new tire.

It is true to the fact that most motorcycle accidents are caused by drivers of autos, I used to ride a motorcycle with hubby and had several near accidents because the car seemed to be in a hurry and try to pass in restricted areas or they run up on the back end of you really fast. But besides that crotchers do show off and some have reason too, there pretty dang good at doing those stunts but seems to me that they could find a little road that isn't being used to practice on, not heavily trafficed roadways.
