I want to aware people who have cats and buy cat food from the family dollar store on the avenue about a bag of cat food that i believe is tainted. i bought a blue bag of chicken flavor cat food for five dollars for my cats and now three of them have died with two others deathly sick. I went through all the motions of trying to figure out what happened to them and the only thing different in their lives was the cat food. Mind you these were inside cats that had no possible way of getting into anything that would harm them in any way. Two of them died within a day. one of them I had on antibiotics for three days trying to make her better and she died today. I have been around animals my whole life and am very keen on what makes them sick. I have two more that are trying to hang in there while on the antibiotics. Im just trying to forewarn anyone from buying this particular off brand cat food for I would hate for anyone to go through the same pain as I have the last couple of days. I went to the store and informed the lady there of what was happening and I have sent a email to the main office of this episode. I was alittle short of cash when I bought this thinking it was a good deal at the time. Now I wish I had just spent the extra money and bought the good stuff like I normally do.I just wanted to post this to warn all others of the possibility that this food can make your pet sick or even cause death.

I am SO SORRY rsnapp. I would KILL if something happened to my babies. I'm so sorry honey!!! I won't buy anything other than Science Diet for indoor cats, even though I've went without myself JUST to get the little boogers that stuff. They eat it like candy. I certainly know how it is when you just cannot afford the good stuff though. Blessed Be sweetie!! If you ever want to talk or whatever give me a holler!!!

THANK YOU for the warning!

Really good cat food is very expensive. My cat, Morgan, is so spoiled and only east Fancy Feast dry as well as moist food. I would buy this for him and live on cheese and crackers for myself. I used to think it so odd that some elderly would buy cat food and do without themselves, but not so odd when you have a cat or cats. They are just like children. I am very sorry for your loss.

Thank all of you for your sincerity. Now Im confused what is the cdc? I have contacted the corporate office of the Family dollar store and I went to the store and told one of the ladies there about it. I do not have the bag anymore though. It didnt take long for my cats to eat it and it was thrown away. They ate the cat food for the week and ended up sick. Now my babies are eating friskies and i wont ever buy off brand again. If it was just me and my cats i would go without for them.

Good news I got a call from the district manager of this store and he is going to go thru the steps of removing this cat food and have it tested to see if it is tainted. Heoffered me my money back but I dont want anything all I want is to be sure that noone else goes thru this kind of misery again.

I have now heard of three other occasions where someone bought this cat food and have lost animals due to it. The Avenue store has removed the cat food but there are other stores that are still selling it. I guess Im going to have to go a step further to insure noone else buys this cat food. It is called delight cat food in a blue bag please tell everyone not to buy it.

"I have now heard of three other occasions where someone bought this cat food and have lost animals due to it."
Was that around here local too?

I signed up for warning emails on tainted pet food when the last scare hit and I never received one for that. I wonder if they know.

FOXY, do you have a contact for the CDC to let them know in case they don't?

My sinerest condolences to your loss of your animal companions. I hope you can find some answers, and solence to this.

On another note, I seem to faintly remember seeing something like this very reciently but I haven't been able to turn up anything. IF I do, I'll post to the BBS immediately. I'll spread the word myself.
