For the smokers in our group, there is something new in Maysville. Area stores have started to receive fire safe cigarettes. April is the deadline for the new law to start in Kentucky.

How the fire safe cigarette works is kind of interesting. Within one cigarette there are two speed bumps and if someone is smoking and they are taking a drag from it at the speed bump it will continue. Now if someone has a cigarette in their hand and there is no drag, no oxygen, it will self extinguish at that point.

The picture shows the way to identify the fire safe cigs. If you notice the initials above the bar code, you can tell what is inside the carton.

...........Hmmm, add the price of these new cigs to the $1.00 cigarette tax that Beshear is proposing, it's going to get pretty expensive to smoke.

Tax & spend, tax & spend, it's already starting.
Glad I don't smoke.
I couldn't afford it..........see ya mark

Former Governor Ernie Fletcher signed the legislation into law March 2007, requiring that all cigarettes sold in Kentucky as of April 2008 be low-ignition strength (or fire-safe) as established by recognized standards.

The fire safe cigarettes are a joke. I have been able to see 1st hand, that they WILL still cause a fire and with the same percentages as the non-fire safe cigarettes. That is 1 in 1 million cigarettes dropped will still cause a fire.
