....................If you have a "Home Remedy" that you know works...please post it here for the good of all. It can deal with poison ivy, bee stings, dealing with splinters, or anything else you can think of that others may benefit from.
Please don't post anything unless it has worked for you, or someone that you know. There is plenty of disinformation, cons and out in out fraudulent books and products on the market that good people have wasted their hard earned money on.
I would like to see things posted here that can help people.....and the information obviously will be free.
I'll start.
I found out the drinking 2 glasses of Gatorade relieves headache pains almost immediately. I told my wife this.......she tried it recently........and it worked for her!
Anyone else have anything else to share?............see ya mark

For bee stings my grandma always told me to get the stinger out first then cut a onion in half and rub it on there. No more itchy's or pain. It always works for me.

To relieve that nasty taste in your mouth during the morning sickness phase of pregnancy eat a raw potato, with salt. Or eat some plain Lays potato chips, the kind made in sunflower oil works best. I found this was much better than crackers at soothing your stomach, and taste so much better!
Of course you know the gargle with salt water for a sore throat, and also with vinegar. The vinegar is a natural bacteria killer, it may be nasty tasting to some, but it works! (You can use it & baking soda to clean your home too, if you want to go "GREEN".)

Ok, these things I've actually tried and works
For slow bath drains; A couple or 3 cups of cheap bleach poured right into the drain will clear them right up! One caveat: I know this works fine on plastic pipes (most modern homes have such) I have no idea what it'd do with metal pipes. If there is a plumber here, please advise. I'm not sure what is making my shower drain clog up, but it's either hair, or body oils. Never tried this on a kitchen sink (which may be things like grease, or food)
Diabetics: To lower blood glucose, try ground cinnamon (or cinnamon pills - which is just ground cinnamon in a capsule) with your meals. Another good thing is 2 tbsp (130g) of toasted wheat germ (available in the cereal section). It adds about 2g of fiber, which also slows your digestion. Both keeps the foods from spiking your blood. This is safer than relying on fats to do the same.
Isopropyl alcohol is amazingly good for several things I found: Fungus problems (like ringworm, barber's itch, jock itch, athlete's foot). Just wipe a paper or toilet paper soaked with alcohol right on the area and regular applications (once a day) will keep them from coming back. (One bottle of alcohol cost $.80 and last for a month or 2. Compare that to the $4 for something like Tinactin, and doesn't seem to work)
For swimmers ear or keeping your ear from plugging up with ear-wax peas, a careful wiping of the inside of your ear with a q-tip dipped in alcohol after a swim, or shower keeps this from happening.
Finally, it's a good shaving lotion if you don't want to smell like one that frequates the 'house of the rising sun' ;). Stings, but then regular ca lone does as well. Once it evaporates, there's no smell.
Back, shoulders, or fingers hurting after working on the computer, piano or other repetitive things? Try this book: Conquering Carpal Tunnel Syndrome : And Other Repetitive Strain Injuries (http://www.amazon.com/Conquering-Carpal-Tunnel-Syndrome-Repetitive/dp/1572240393)10 years ago, I very nearly left the Internet because my back, arms and hands was tingling, numb and painful. I found this book at the Lewis Co. library by accident, and in 2 weeks, 2 years of pain and numbness was gone, and regular stretching has kept it away for 10 years. It works!
Chopping up onions, and got that smell on your hands? Did you know if you wet your hands, then rub table salt on them, the smell is removed?
Eating something hot? (Habanero or Jalapeno peppers, etc) Drink milk, or beer when you do, instead of water. The juice is oil based, and of course water and oil doesn't mix. But it does in milk or beer.Ok now I'm shutting up :) Thanks Mark for this thread.

For gardeners:
Got flower beds, or other places where you don't care what the mulch looks like, but still want the benefits? Try grass clippings or leaves. They're bio friendly, and if you put on about 3", only onions can poke though. Plus you don't have to burn, or have them taken away.
Want to get rid of weeds safely without endangering animals or people? Vinegar, or another food based acid poured directly onto the plant. You can also put in extremely high concentration of salt water (pour water right on a large amount of salt until its suspended) Salt is extremely effective against onions (which seem to resist everything.)
Planting a garden, but don't want to fight weeds? Tried this last year; Line all exposed dirt with newspapers, then cover them with the cheapest mulch you can get (leaves, grass clippings, hay, straw, compose, or if you work for a tree trimming place, wood chips.) Even onions can't poke though newspapers and just a few sheets thick will last all growing season. The flower bed I tried it on; Had some grass poking between the flowers and the edge of the newspapers, but that was easy to get rid of. Eliminates about 99.99% of weeding!- Kc

If you have the runs or upchucks take a can of coke "CAN ONLY" open it put it back in the fridge till flat about 30 to 40 min. and drink it. A local pharmasist told me that and thats what I do when I get sick. I dont know why he told me can only.

Ok, I know this sounds ridiculous but I am a firm believer in using a February icile for burns. Allow the icile to melt in a jar. Store in a cabinet and when you burn yourself, it will take the sting out almost immediately. A friend told me about this years ago when I had a bad burn on my arm. She dabbed the water on the burn and the relief was almost instant.
Peroxide is great to fight fungus infections such as athletes' feet. In a spray bottle mix 1/2 water and 1/2 peroxide. Spray on the infected areas. Peroxide is great for removing blood stains. When my mother was receiving transfusions for leukemia almost on a weekly basis, she often had blood drip on her clothes. One of her nurses gave me the hint about the peroxide.
On the onset of a urinary tract infection, take two regular alka-seltzers dissolved in a glass of water.
If you have a boil that needs to come to a head, break an egg and rub the membrane on the inside of the shell on the boil.
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

For a wart you take a potato cut it in half rub one half on the wart put it in a zip bag in your cabinet until it rots and throw the other half away. When it is rotten all the way the wart will be gone it takes a few weeks but it works. Make sure you double your zip lock baggie ya dont want the smell out lol......I dont this on my child and it worked way better than the freeze off stuff you buy at the drug stores..

Since I have a bunch of honey bees, I thought I's share this short version of a long story (http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2076.html).
Honey bees have a barbed stinger. Only the honey bee leaves her stinger (with its venom sac attached) in the skin of its victim.
Since it takes two to three minutes for the venom sac to inject all its venom, instant removal of the stinger and sac usually reduces harmful effects.
Scrape away with a sideways movement (one quick scrape) with a fingernail.
Never try to use the thumb and forefinger or tweezers to pinch out the stinger since this maneuver forces (injects) more venom from the sac down into the wound.

Here's one to remember for the summer. For sunburn, soak a washcloth or paper towel in white vinegar and gently rub on sunburn. Instant relief! Yeppers, it does stink but the relief is worth it. You can shower after the sting of the burn goes away.

I'd forgotten that, and it does work. Works on all forms of burns too. (but get medical treatments for 3rd degree burns)
I think that's also what works with bivdawgs's idea about pickles; the vinegar

I've heard this before, although I was told 7-up or sprite. So apprently it's a soda that works. not just the flavor. I'll try to remember this when I'm kissing the ivory throne :)

Here's one for a Sprained Ankle:
...............Do this at bedtime---
Wrap the ankle with an Ace bandage (not too tight)
Pour Apple Cider Vinegar over the bandage (must be APPLE CIDER VINEGAR)
Soak it really good.
Wrap the Ace bandage with a brown paper bag.
Put a plastic bag (similar to Wal-mart bag) over the brown paper bag.
Secure the plastic bag so it doesn't slip off.
Next morning it will feel much better and color will be back to normal.
Oh yes........you need to take a shower before going to work or school...your foot will smell really bad.
This worked for my relative once...........see ya mark
..........thought of another one a relative tried once.
They had a old beagle dog they loved dearly get the mange.
That uncle got a bucket of used motor oil and a paintbrush and literally painted that dog & locked him up in a old stripping room for the day.
He was slimy when they cleaned him up, but the mange was gone.
That happened around 1970...........see ya mark

Here's a few-
For stings (wasp, hornet or bee) create an asprin paste & apply thickly to the sting- allow the paste to dry & harden- supposed to take the pain, itching & swellingaway
Aloe plants can fix almost anything from chicken pox to minor burns in the kitchen. My mom always clipped off a sprig of her plant, sliced the sprig in half & would apply directly- not only is the juice beneficial, but so is the gelatin type tissue of the plant
For pesky weeds, dumping your hot oil from frying taters on them works wonders...also does pouring the hot boiling water from boiling pasta.
Be careful with the salt remedy for weeds- my Mamaw once killed all her beautiful pine trees by trying to kill poison that was growing at the bases.
Be careful with store bought drain cleaners & kitchen sinks! If the cleaner has lye in it, it will combine with any oils that may be in your drain & will produce a soapy type substance that will mess your pipes up worse. When my mom was a kid, they made their own lye soap with hog lard & lye.

My Dad suffers from Gout extremely bad, it has gotten to the point that he couldn't even walk. He has been to the Dr. countless times and nothing seems to help. My Mom was in Wal-mart and a lady that she was talking to told her to buy him a can of Tart Red Cherries IN WATER and have him eat 30 Tart red cherries at one time and then 5 or 6 every morning. Finally something that did help! 2 hours later he was up walking around. He said the Gout was still there but the pain was GONE! I don't know who else sells them but she found them at Kroger's.

Vick's Vapor Rub is great for removing skin tags, warts, etc. Just apply and cover with tape or a bandaid. Re-apply as needed and skin tag will simply dry up. Also good for nail fungus. If you sprain an ankle, soak a brown paper bag in vinegar and wrap around ankle.

Duct Tape over a wart will also dry it up. It may take a couple of weeks, but it worked better than the freeze stuff, and the wart glue stuff.
These are all good ideas people, keep them coming!

Tea Tree Oil and Listerine are good for getting rid of nail fungus. Soak the nail in Listerine for about 10 minutes every day. Let dry completely. Apply Tea Tree oil to the area.
Make a paste with baking soda and water for bee stings. Apply paste to area to take the sting out.
Magic Mouthwash for sore throats - mix 2 parts children's liquid Benedril and 1 part Mylanta and gargle.
