Maysville, Ky. - Regional Area Law Enforcement along with many of the children from the area raid the local Wal Mart for toys.

No this is not a joke it is part of the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) Project called "Shop with a Cop".

Shop with a Cop is a program that helps area children during Christmas that would might not normally be able to celebrate Christmas with the same enjoyment as other children. This could be due to many family factor such as a missing parent or a financial problem.

Major Ron Rice of the Maysville Police Dept. said "I have been working with the Shop with a Cop program about 11 years." Major Rice has been instrumental in keeping the program alive during this time and has placed a smile on many children's face during his tenure as President of the FOP.

Sheriff Patrick Boggs with Deputy Matt Gallenstein guided several children through the store. Sheriff Boggs truly enjoys his time with these children. Sheriff Boggs said "it is one event where I feel we, as Police Officers, make a positive impact on a child's life in a good way."

Department Personal from Bracken, Fleming and Mason County where all present as as Larry Farris with Kentucky Traffic enforcement, Chief Cummings of Augusta PD. Several Kentucky State Patrol Officers and even the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Officers, Mason County Probation and Parole and the Commonwealths Attorney's Office where present.

Officials with the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW post 2734 and the commander of the VFW Post were on hand at Wal-Mart to donate two $1,000 checks to the FOP to fund this year's program. Other funds come from year-long drives to ensure that every child in the area has some form of Christmas.

Richard Newbury and his Assoc. Did a great job of helping with the event. Without their help and dedication the event would not have went so smoothly. A special thanks to you from the Police and Children of our area.

Excellent story Chuck.. Thanks to all you wonderful people who make this possible every year. If it wasn't for the businesses and the awesome citizens of Mason, Bracken and Fleming Counties, this event would never be possible.

I think the kids in T.E.S needs to be recongized for what they done this year. Debbie Boling let the fith grade class bring money for the angel tree to buy gifts. My daughter was so happy to know she helped another child be happy this Christmas instead of exchanging classroom gifts. Way to go T.E.S and Debbie Boling.....
