It's getting to be a broken record, but...

Frozen pot pies suspected in salmonella outbreak

(CNN) -- Federal authorities are warning consumers not to eat Banquet frozen turkey and chicken pot pies or similar generic store-brand products because they may have caused an outbreak of salmonella poisoning.

Banquet chicken and turkey pot pies are suspected in an outbreak of salmonella poisoning.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began investigating last week after receiving reports of illness. By Friday, it had identified the pot pies as a potential source of the salmonella that sickened more than 100 people in dozens of states.

Ok why is it every time they come out with what may have caused this outbreak I've just eaten whatever it is that may have caused this? I just ate two banquet pot pies. I'd just ate a can of castleberry's when that came out.

It's simply. They recall the entire lot of a product even though only 10% my be infected. This is only because they do not know what 10% is infected.

The solution for smaller recalls is make smaller lots of a product. This does cut in to operational cost but ensures a smaller cost when forced to do a recall.

This is happening so frequently. Is anyone thinking terrorism is to blame? What's next? Our Water supply?:fear::fear::fear:

Acually yes. My mother started the idea about a year ago, and even I have been considering lately it may be.

It makes no sense really. They act like they want the big boom. But something like this. Doesn't sound like al-quata, but maybe they're changing their tactics.

I've gotten to the point, where I'm raising a big enough garden next year whereby I'll raise all my own food. We'll see how it goes with canning and perservation.

I think its all WalMarts fault. They beat these companies down on price and the companies cut corners to make ends meet. Maybe safety is what they're cutting

Personally I've thought the same too but longer than the terrorism angle. You can only go so far with cutting costs, and if they're getting into safety, then it's time for people to say 'NO'

I think it's already starting but who knows. American's are known for their inertia I'm afraid.

I agree that corners are being cut to keep the price lower. I also agree that Walmart is a guilty party in this.

To start off I do not work at Walmart do not own stock in Walmart and rarely shop at walmart. That being said I have to say something about blaming Walmart for other companies for tainted food. These companies may be tryint to cut corners to stay abreast but when they cut the corners on safety then they are to blame. When my friends make me mad or upset me then I take out a gun and shoot them then I am responsible for my actions not my friends for ticking me off as is these companies I'm sorry folks but there comes a time when we all have to take responsiblity for our actions. Maybe the cuts, if this is what happened, should have come from the execs bonuses or something. I just think blaming another company for another companies mistake is bizarre.

These recall are NOT just from Wal-mart

I think the point is, Flame and ACM is that Wal-Mart has pushed these companies so much, any industry that's touched by Wally world cuts their costs down to the bone.

I've seen this with the computer field. The industry for computer makers is so tight, its' like they make pennies on the dollar.

Think I'll keep making my own computers - sure wish I could build my own laptop though.

It's 2 factor. Supply and demand which is controlled by the people. Bad import laws that cause less meat to produced inside this country. Wal-Mart is only a delivery mechanism feeds on the supply and demand of the public.

It is we the people that have set this standard. We demand the cheaper low quality products and food. The people we elected make laws that makes it easy to get goods in from other countries that don't care about quality of products or the health and safety of Americans.

Wal Mart is just happy to sell them to us.

Good post Chuck. In several states WalMart is fighting proposed legislation that would require the labeling of country of origin on food products.
