This recipe was given to me by a good friend and it is always a hit when my husband and I do "Big Breakfast" at church. If you like French toast, you'll love this.
Crème Brulee French Toast
1 ½ sticks of butter
1 ½ cups of brown sugar
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons of corn syrup
~~~~~~
10 slices of French or Italian Bread 1 ¾ inches thick
4 eggs beaten
2 ½ cups of milk
1 tablespoon of vanilla
¼ teaspoon of salt
3 tablespoons of sugar
1 ½ teaspoons of cinnamon
¼ cup of melted butter
Combine the first 3 ingredients and cook over medium heat. Do not boil.
Pour into greased 9 x 13 dish; arrange bread over syrup
Combine eggs, milk, salt and vanilla. Pour over bread; Cover and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.
Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over bread and drizzle with melted butter. I eliminate the butter in this step.
