Yesterday was a busy day in downtown Maysville. The big city news guys were in town for the AB story, but the grand jury also came back with an indictment that hits closer to "home".

It is bad enough when you go out and about and have to deal with crime on the streets, but when you are a victim of an invasion, the bad guys have crossed a line that citizens should not tolerate.

Your home should be safe from the bad guys, and any message the courts can send to this type of crime would be a good thing.

On June 23rd a Maysville resident was roused from his sleep shortly before 5:30 a.m. and found a man pointing a gun at his head.

Christopher Lee Moore was indicted on the charge of first-degree burglary. Emily Dryden and William Michael Dodson were indicted on charges of complicity to first-degree burglary for this crime.

Good work to the police for catching these people, now the courts should do their thing. The law says 10 to 20 years.

I for one am impressed that these individuals were caught. How many times do we hear about a burglary and never hear of anyone getting caught. Kudos to the Maysville Police Department. Imo if you can do the crime you can do the time.

Thats great, congratulations to the MPD for catching them so quick. It sounds like we need to sleep with a gun these days. We are having the same problem in Lexington with home invasions. There is 1 almost every night.

What gets me is that most people work hard for what they've got and then you have people who think they can just come right in and take whatever they please. Well here's a thought get off your rearend and get a job and no breaking into others houses is not classified as a job. Some people will do anything for a buck. Imo I can see more bulgarlies with the rising cost of things. I'm by no means saying this is an excuse cause you break into my house my hubby and I are both "ready".

I feel some of this got started when "they" decided it was OK if the thief means no harm to you personally. Let them take the TV and go. There have been way too many instances where the thieves even sued the homeowners for shooting them. I, for one, feel that if someone enters my domain without permission, I should be able to put that person in the next world by whatever means necessary. No questions asked. And if that person lives, they should be made to pay for any damages/cleanup that were caused by the event. No questions asked. And that goes for what goes on out side my domain and on my property. Stealing hubcaps or gas? Down you go. And then a call to the police. With a zero chance of charges being filed against me. And yes, it would be a bloodbath at first if the laws were changed to allow this. But after awhile, this type of crime would go down.

Home Invasion and holding the homeowner at gun point needs to be a whole new crime. It should carry a penalty similar to 1st degree rape.

What gets me is ... some people think the cash bond [25k] is too high.
question.. did they awaken to a firearm pointed at their head? I think not.
Was their home invaded with the intent to take personal property ,at the least? I have not seem a report of such.:fear:

Also it was quoted in the paper the gas chamber was called for { "It make me mad, I think they should give her the gas chamber." }. But it was not clear if it was meant for Baker or Dryden:confused:
The gas chamber for a "lookout" sounds a bit "overkill".:drum:

I've always thought if you use a gun in a commission of a crime, 10 years should be tacked on. Mandatory. No escape. No getting out early. Not even for juveniles. The vast majority disagrees with me on the legalization of drugs, which is why a lot of these crimes are committed, but if you steal to support your habit, no mercy. I hate thieves.

I have an opinion here. imagine that. But it is in agreeance with you all have already said. What gives a person the impression it is ok to come into someone elses house with the intention to take something they worked hard for and you did nothing to earn. GET a J O B. I'm with the person that said if you break into my house I should be able to do whatever is necessary to protect my home and my family. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. You invaded my home. Deal with the consequences. And if I'm not mistaken isn't stealing one of the big ten Moses had on that tablet?

......you & I are in total agreement on this one.

No questions asked. In fact, the officers & judge should be eager to shake your hand........you just saved them months of paperwork & trials..........see ya mark

I am with you all, and we are definitely ready if someone breaks in! My husband is a Marine, so I hope no one ever has the balls to attempt it either. The sad thing is, in Ohio if you shoot an intruder you can get into trouble yourself. That law needs to be changed, and it's time the lawmakers do something about it. If someone breaks into your home that should be means enough to defend yourself, whether they have a weapon or not. believe me though, I will shoot first & ask questions later. I highly doubt an Adams County, Ohio jury would convict me for doing so, but I don't know if it would go to Cincinnati or not. I've heard of people getting jailtime in the Cicinnati area for defending their homes. Just a side note here, we are NOT related to the Emily Dryden chick...lol

Can't think of a rational jury in Kentucky that would convict a homeowner for shooting, killing, maiming, or otherwise injuring someone who broke into their home.. (Note the Rational Part.)

With that said, Kentucky is considering a law similar to that of Texas, if they haven't passed it already. I think, too, if this law has/will pass it will only take a few cases to get the point across to those who choose to enter a home and take things not theirs.

I agree that if someone enters your home to do harm...they should be ready for the consequences...I would not blink an eye to do whatever I needed if I had the opportunity to do it before they got me....I sure would go out fighting..Thanks to MPD for getting these crooks so soon.
