Been having a problem with the DVR. It loses sound. Sometimes only on the analog channels, sometimes only on the digital channels and sometimes, only on what it recorded. When it first happened,Cablevision gave it a “hit” from the office and cured it. The second time, they sent the gang out and they discovered it had muted itself somehow, but didn't display the “mute” sign on the TV. Just hit the mute button a few times and the sound would come back. About a month ago, storm came through and electric went off. Now if you turn it on and it is recording, a message comes on and wants to know if you want to swap to your other tuner. Since that time, the sound has been gone a lot on startup and no amount of hitting the mute button will bring it back. I remember the “hit” they gave it. It looked like the thing shut off and came back on. Out of curiosity, I did the unplug/plug thing. Sound was back, but of course, no guide for hours. This is starting to get annoying. Got off this morning and the same thing. Had to do the unplug/plug routine again. Third time this week. Is this a common problem, or a sign the unit is slowly going out? The last two times, one program I had recorded had no sound no matter what I did. The rest sound. I figured I'd check with the gang first before I gave them a call.

My son has a dvr with insight cable in Lexington. He has the same problem with the sound muting, (maybe twice a month) and they told him to also unplug then plug it back in ( resetting the dvr) must be a common problem.

A little off topic here. My husband and I just bought a new TV and I called the Limestone and they said in order to get the HD channels we would have to have a box from them. And they are out. We are on a waiting list. Is anyone else on this list?? How long have you been on it?
Does anyone have this HD tuner? They said something about a DVR. But I don't have a digital package. Just the preferred cable. Is it a recorder just like Tivo?
Sorry I hate to sound stupid but I just don't understand.

You're not sounding stupid. The last I heard you either need a QUAM Tuner in your TV or a DVR box to get the HD Channels. Unless the changed that. I will ask today and see. Yes, a DVR is very much like a TIVO box in that you can record TV Shows.

Ya have to have a tuner. lol. The fact that you get 101.1 tells me it is QAM 256. You too funny.
Amandaann, You should have a place to screw the cable in the back of the TV. If you do then go in to your setup menu and search and select auto program. If your tuner works it will get the channels for HD. go to channel 100 and then hit the channel up button to See if they are there.

OK, I meant that I have no special box for those channels. I just put my cable line in the tv, told it to auto search channels, and then they were there....

Right We do not have the tuner. However I did see some on ebay as well as on bestbuy.com Would they work too. I hate spending $10.00 a month when I can get them for about $200.00 and it is mine.

If it is a QAM Tuner or QAM Converter I would think yes but you would really need to ask the cable company that question.

Just to check back in, mine has been running flawlessly for the past two weeks. I'll keep my fingers crossed. When I posted, the lack of sound and the unplug/plug routine was driving Kim and I nuts.
