According to the latest newsletter from the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center, they have these available on microfilm. Saves a trip to Frankfort!
Their address for out-of-towners:

Do you mean they have the actual Death Certificates on microfilm or just the index? That will definitely be terrific if they have actual certificates. :)

I'm assuming from the way it is worded in their newsletter, it will be the actual Death Certificates that you can print off to use as proof in your genealogy research, just like pages of the Census.
Of course, the information on a Death Certificate is only as good as the person who provides the information.
They can be invaluable for date/place of birth, date/place of death, parentage, spouse info, marital status @ time of death......all that good stuff family researchers dream of!

Thanks for that information, Annie. Now to get my list ready and free up some time. Much appreciated.

I touched base with Myra this morning.
What you need are the Volume and Certificate numbers. If you don't have those, they have an index you can search to find this information.
She also told me they should have 1956 by the end of July.
The Museum is closed on Monday. Their website is:

Is there any possibility they may make the records accessable "online" rather than reg., mail or microfilm?

The only records online I have found give the person's name, DOB plus place born, DOD, place of death, and place of last residence. These are searchable through Rootsweb, the Kentucky Death Index, and the SSDI.
I did a quick search for you and will IM my results.

I finally found opportunity to visit the Museum today and was totally thrilled. The folks I dealt with were friendly and knowledeable. Came home with several death certificates I needed and information on census records available. Will be going back tomorrow - with a revised list.
Looks like construction is still going on, but I like what I saw.

If you have a subscription to ancestry.com you can find all these Kentucky vital records online and can print them out on a computer printer. Sometimes the public library will have online access to ancestry on their computers. I found records for my Clift family that were amazing and full of information. Yes, they are photos of the actual records.

I have an Ancestry.com subscription and it is fantastic! Just sometimes its nice to do research the 'old-fashioned' way. A visit to the clerks office always unveils alot of information and the museum is top-notch! Plus, not all records are online as of yet. That day will come, I'm sure.
I love the free sites as they will sometimes have transcriptions of obits, wills, and letters. Try KyGenWeb or (any state)GenWeb. Some are better than others. Cliftome, you might even try and google 'Clift Geneology' and see what comes up. That's how I found a site dedicated to the GIFFORD genealogy, which is part of my line.

I've been taking advantage of Ancestry for online death certificates. They only go through 1953 right now for Kentucky. I went back to the Museum today and they have certs through 1956 and expect 1957-1959 soon. :)

Thanks
I do try to help when people get stuck in there search. Genealogy has been fun for me so far. It is amazing on how people strive to survive back then, even CPR or the Heimlich was not even thought of until the 1970's. Oh well I can go on and on. But we have found three cousins that had separated from us and have gotten together to help fill in the gaps. Here are some of the surnames in my family line. I have over a 1000 in my data. When you get through the brick wall it will open up for you.
Surnames: Bowling/Bolling, Wilson, Thacker, Carr, Crump, Case, Jones, Neu, Fisher, Vogel, Alexander, Amis, Anderson, Arnett, Asher, Baker, Baldwin, Ball, Barber, Barnett, Brady, Brewer, Browning, Buntin, Byrd, Clay, Clarke, Couch, Crevier, Culp, Curtis, Davis, Detro, Doty, Doughty, Downman, Frasure, Frost, Fryman, Fugate, Gallagher, Garrett, Gay, Gray, Griffin, Hamilton, Hardwick, Harmon, Hatton, Heale, Henson, Himes, Hord, Howard, Howse, Hubbard, Hudson, Huff, Hunt, Hurd, Jefferson, Johnson, Kenny, Kennon, Leet, Legit, lochard, Marks, McCarty, Merida, Miller, Myers, Moore, Napier, Newigate, Parish.
Good luck searching.
