I've assembled a few tips that I can share.
a) do a google search for 'insulian mimics' you'd be surpised at what accually has been found to work like insulian. Cinnimon, and alpha liopic acid, are two I've used before.
An insulian mimic however doesn't work instantly. You'll have to build up a supply in the body for about a month before it starts to work. Once that happens, just taking it, will drop your blood glucose. There is cinnimon pills out there that's nothing more than ground cinnimon in capsule form. 2 will drop me 20 points in 15 minutes.
b) Keep hydrated. The more you drink, the lower your sugar levels. I found that if you drink a lot for about a week, you'll body will adjust and you won't be going to the bathroom nearly as often. After that, 8 16oz glasses of liquids a day will keep you very well hydrated. However watch out for caffine (see below) Caffine is a natural diaretic, and will dehyrate you.
c) Watch out for caffine! Caffine is a known raiser, and depending on the amount, will affect your BG levels.
d) One of the more unusual ways I found to help me, is going to various fast food web sites, for their nutrional charts. The only one I couldn't find was either KFC, or Lees. But one was similar enough that I could figure out the other.
Here's also a few web pages that are major helps:
http://www.glycemicindex.com/
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
