The Maysville Police Department is asking for assistance from the community on identifying two men caught on video in the local Wal-Mart Supercenter, apparently stealing wide-screen televisions.
According to Detective Michael Palmer, the department was contacted by Wal-Mart officials Friday who advised police four of the televisions had been stolen from the store in the last few weeks. The first incident apparently dated back to the end of January, with two more incidents occurring last week.
Security video from the store shows two men, one dressed in black, the other in orange, taking the televisions at different times. The men apparently loaded the televisions into carts then pushed the appliances around until no one was looking. Then, Palmer said, they exited through emergency exit doors with the items.
Palmer said the doors did have security alarms, but the alarms were not loud enough to generate notice. Palmer said it was likely when the suspects exited the building, a vehicle was waiting for them.
Palmer said he did not know if the two different suspects knew each other since the thefts were at different times. In fact, there did not seem to be a common time for the thefts, with one occurring at 11:30 p.m., and another at 6 a.m.
The televisions, Palmer said, were 37 inch flat screen televisions. Palmer was not immediately able to estimate the value of the televisions.
The video of the thefts was posted on the Maysville Bulletin Board Web site, www.maysvillekybbs.com. As of Monday morning Palmer said police had not received any feedback, although he was hopeful the videos would generate a lead, citing past experience when the videos posted on the Web site had helped police in investigations.
For anyone with information on the thefts, call 606-564-9411.
