Herb Farm @ Strodes Run is a busy place even in the winter season when the farm is closed to the public.

Robert Milward has just returned from a 2000 mile round trip to Florida, to give his honey bees a head start on next season.

During Kentucky’s cold winter months, the honey bee population drops from 60,000 bees per hive to around 600 bees. When spring comes, the hives have to repopulate and start another season of honey production.

This can take up to 6 months before the first honey harvest. Last year, was a smaller harvest than usual and to make up for lost production, this year the some of the bees will over winter in Florida.

When spring arrives in Kentucky, each of the hives in Florida will be split into 4 new hives and returned to Kentucky to start working the clover and other flowers in the area.

By giving the honey bees a head start, the potential harvest for the upcoming 4th Annual Honey Festival in October could be much larger compared to previous years.

If you are interested in crop pollination for your farm, or related beekeeping information and supplies, contact the Herb Farm @ Strodes Run. www.StrodesRun.com (Mason County’s largest producer of 100% Pure Honey and the first Certified Organic farm in the County.)

:Banane43: Hemp has gotten a bad rap over the years, because in the past it has been thought that only hippie tree hugers and stoners were the only people that used hemp. The truth is that alot of big companie's have been using it for years it has only has in recent year that public opion has begin to change. With the world becoming more envoirment friendly and health minded. The more people learn seemingly endless uses for the plant I think we will start to more an more products made entirly out hemp. The best part of all is that hemp can be grow every year it will cut down on the need for chemical based products in alot of indiustries.:Banane36:
