Mason County basketball star Darius Miller is going to Lexington Wednesday to play in the Fifth Third Bank Classic at Lexington Catholic.

Miller is generally considered among the top high school junior prospects in the state and The University of Kentucky is doing everything possible to make sure Darius knows he is wanted at Kentucky.

Kentucky has offered a scholarship, as have Louisville, Tennessee, Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Cincinnati, Xavier and Kansas.

Mason County will bring an unbeaten record into its game against the winner of Central and Russell. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Miller is concentrating on the season and not narrowing schools or advancing the recruiting process, Mason County Coach Chris O'Hearn said.

Darius Miller was the star attraction at the Fifth Third Bank Holiday Classic Wednesday night, but it was his teammates who sparkled down the stretch in a 57-55 overtime win against Russell.

Kentucky Coach Tubby Smith, who already has offered Miller a scholarship, was among a near-capacity crowd that showed up at Lexington Catholic to watch a battle of unbeaten teams.

Most eyes were on Darius Miller at last week's Fifth Third Bank Classic. The junior for Mason County is coveted by UK, hence the presence each day of Tubby Smith.

On Wednesday, Miller scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, handed out four assists and committed four turnovers in an overtime victory over Russell.

Mason County Coach Chris O'Hearn called for Miller, a 6-foot-6 player who brought the ball up the floor and gave the Royals a presence inside, to be more assertive.

"At times, he's got to want to score more," O'Hearn said. "He's almost unselfish to a fault."

Miller explained his reluctance to take charge. He wants his teammates to become more involved and gain confidence at this point of the season. Then Mason County can cash in that confidence at tournament time.

In Thursday's quarterfinals, Miller scored 24 points (moving him beyond 1,000 for his career), grabbed nine rebounds and handed out five assists in a victory over Henry Clay.

As for recruiting, Miller is not thinking of his college choice. He's trying to enjoy this season, including the many appearances Smith has made at Mason County games.

"I don't think it really affects my game," Miller said of Smith's presence. "It kind of gets me jacked up a little."

But Miller doesn't talk much about the college choice he'll have to make this season or next.

"I'm wide open," he said. "I'm still trying to plan for (college) visits my senior year, get to know the coaches and the styles of play."

Umm, that won't happen, no way possible to watch both of them play at the same time at Tennessee as Chris is a junior this year in college and Darius is a junior this year in high school. Doubt he goes to the orange/white anyhow but if so they won't be teamates at the same time!
