The River Valley Agritourism Alliance held it’s monthly meeting last night at the Mason County Extension office.
Coming off a successful year of marketing Agritourism in the River Valley area of Kentucky the group elected new officers for the coming year.
The River Valley Agritourism Alliance was formed in 2005 to help farmers wishing to offer on farm activities a marketing and information resource.
With the election of the 2007 officers, the organization using grant money and matching funds from area counties is drifting away from the core group it was designed to help.
Questionable leadership and spending of funds by the group, has lead some early members to question the direction and purpose of the group.
The organization has succeeded in alienating some of it core membership, and concerns over financial management and communication within the group may lead to more problems for the young and fledging soon to be non-profit organization.
Agritourism has become a major source of income state wide and groups like this are at the grass roots level of the movement.
Their importance cannot be over stated in the big picture of Kentucky tourism.
