The Horse Sale that used to be held at the Maysville Stockyards has moved to Paris, KY.

Yesterday's sale started at 3pm with a tack sale. Bargains included bits for $6.oo, lunge lines for $4.00, Saddles starting at $50.00 and a pony cart for $65.00. Halters were $10.00, saddle pads $20.00 and bridles from $20.00

The horse, donkey and mule sale started at 6pm. For three hours, the equines were lead into the arena and auctioned off. Not all of the horses were sold, as sellers out numbered bidders.

Horse prices ranged from $150 to over a thousand dollars. Donkeys averaged $200 and Mules were priced according to their working ability.

For those shopping for a horse, this is a great place to visit.

For a good trail horse, prices seemed to be around $850.00

From my understanding Foxy, it was moved due to the number of complaints lodged by people in this area. The complaints seemed to stem from the fact that several horses that were sold, turned out to be of a different nature once they were at the new owners homes for a few days. Meaning that several horses were medicated to be calm, but in fact weren't.

Plus I was told that the local's were seeing the prices being dropped below what they felt was an idea price, due to the market being flooded by horses being brought in from out west.

Since these two factors was raising large complaints, the stock yard wanted to stop hosting the auction on horses.

What truth lies behind these to items is not know by me, just what I was told by a few locals in the horse business.
