The Mason County School Board passed a motion to accept a bid for a proposed greenhouse and outdoor classroom Monday evening.

The school obtained a $45,000 grant to help offset the cost of the facility, which will be utilized by all schools in the district. The lowest bids were obtained from Stuckey's at $46,913 for the actual facility and from Southern Greenhouse for insulation, at $9,700.

Assistant Superintendent Kelly Middleton believes the entire facility will cost roughly $75,000. Middleton said the district is working with other businesses and grant sources to obtain more funding, but $20,000 may need to come from the school's general fund for the project, said Middleton.

Middleton also said officials discussed placing the new facility in between the high school and the track, near where busses are currently parked.
