Hackers have published code that could let an attacker disable the Windows Firewall on certain Windows XP machines.
The code, which was posted on the Internet early Sunday morning, could be used to disable the Windows Firewall on a fully patched Windows XP PC that was running Windows' Internet Connection Service (ICS). This service allows Windows users to essentially turn their PC into a router and share their Internet connection with other computers on the local area network (LAN.) It is typically used by home and small-business users.

I've been doing some research on firewalls. According to this (http://www.matousec.com/projects/windows-personal-firewall-analysis/leak-tests-results.php) (scroll to bottom to see results) windows firewall doesn't detect much, if any at all. Ever since I installed Comodo Firewall, I haven't had any trouble with spyware, malware etc. This free version even out performs paid versions. It is also compatible with your security center on WinXp systems.
I know you like messing around with programs (like myself) so, I thought I'd run this one by you. Send me an IM if your interested in knowing where I get these free programs.

Tiger:
Thanks for this enlightning page. I've been extremely happy with ZoneAlarm myself, and glad to see it rated so highly. I'm also surpised that Sygate did so poorly. I checked my notes of a couple of years back, and reported an unsual amount of viruses then. So I guess that is the reason. Amazing really
But I'm not a bit surpised how poorly MS's firewall performed. I suspected it would, especially judging by the amount of malware I've had to clean off people's system. ALL XP systems, and yet loaded. MS again has just put on a windows dressing. Makes me see Vista in the same light; IE: POC.
Please IM me the location of that firewall. I've been testing Zonealarm today, trying to find out what's clogging up the bandwidth, and may be Zonealarm doing it.
