This is an unusual post, for here. But I knew that some may find it interesting. It's a scientific investigation into a religious practice.

Language Center Of The Brain Is Not Under The Control Of Subjects Who 'Speak In Tongues'

Glossolalia, otherwise referred to as "speaking in tongues," has been around for thousands of years, and references to it can be found in the Old and New Testament. Speaking in tongues is an unusual mental state associated with specific religious traditions. The individual appears to be speaking in an incomprehensible language, yet perceives it to have great personal meaning. Now, in a first of its kind study, scientists are shining the light on this mysterious practice -- attempting to explain what actually happens physiologically to the brain of someone while speaking in tongues.

Speaking in tongues? I have heard that phrase growing up, never witnessed such a dispay though. When the Bible references, speaking in other tongues, it is simply saying that the subject person who normally speaks one language is given the gift at that time to let people who speak another language understand him/her. It is an understandable language not jibber jabber or other sounds that can not be translated.
How do other people see this issue?

Actually it can be and usually is translated by another party that is under the "trance".

I have been in churches where this has happened and there was always someone translating shortly after.

I've never seen it personally. At least in person (yes, there's been TV shows, but I tend to take tv shows with a grain of salt - even with documentry channels, like Discovery, History, etc.) But I couldn't dismiss it myself. I know there's many things that science can't explain, or thinks can't happen. (case in point, Einstein's works. I'm sure no one would believe in them, before 1906 :)

...............I have seen it happen too, in a church in Anderson Indiana. There were about 10 members speaking in tongues & I had no idea what they were talking about.

Neat experience though............see ya mark
