An agency that started as a reaction to a spate of rapes and sexual assaults 30 years ago has now grown into a crisis center that offers counseling, education programs and shelter for abuse victims.
The Women's Crisis Center of Northern Kentucky is marking its 30th anniversary this week with a fund raising dinner and gala as the need for services grows in the area.
Director Kim Adams says the center is seeing an increase in teenagers calling the center's hotline and more dating violence.
The center operates five walk-in offices and two residential shelters -- in Campbell County and Maysville.
It runs a 24-hour hotline for survivors of partner abuse, rape and sexual abuse.
A hospital advocacy program supports victims of violence through the initial medical exams.
A court advocacy program helps clients file emergency protective orders, criminal charges and attend court hearings and police interviews.
