Sometimes lost in local history is the architect of some of our buildings.
A recent article reveals just who is responsible for our beautiful 1st Presbyterian Church.
The architect's drawings were donated to Marshall University.

Thanks for the link ponto!
I think they may have some drawings they're attributing to him that he didn't do, however. According to the article, Sidney Day was born in 1887. Even if he started his career at age 13, that'd be 1900. The First Presbyterian Church has been around since 1850 or so. It was up in 1854 when the powder magazine explosion caused the dent in its side.
Unless they are talking about building renovation drawings or some other additional work to the building, they're off by many years. What they may have found is papers in his possession that they assume he did, but were actually done before his time and came into his possession as a collector.

Very interesting, maybe this will bring to light just who was the original architect.
We have a lot of similar buildings in Maysville that may share the same designer.
What about the steeple on the 1st Presbyterian church. Seems like your dad was telling me something about it and another one in Maysville that had similar features.
We tend to know buildings just by the name installed on the building. When in fact, the history surrounding them is the real story.
