A federal judge declined Tuesday night to block enforcement of a new state law, clearing the way for some sex offenders to be forced from their homes.

The law was passed this year by the General Assembly and scheduled to take effect Wednesday.

It bars sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of schools, churches, playgrounds and other places where children gather.

U.S. District Judge John Heyburn II made his ruling after a 90-minute hearing on the law.

Fayette County said they would start enforcing the law and possibly evicting or arresting sex offenders at 12:01 a.m. today.

Shortly after midnight one of the first arrested was Larry Woodrum.

Woodrum indicated he had planned to move but wasn't expecting deputies early this morning.

A hit list of more than 50 people were being targeted in the early morning hours.

Surprised neighbors said they did not know there was a sex offender in the neighborhood when police arrived to pick up one of the offenders who had not moved.

What about a sex offender, freshly out of prison, moving in a house next to a house with 3 little boys playing in their back yard? Does this also protect the neighborhood or is it just public places where children gather?

Just what's mentioned above. The neighbor is left to fend for it's self.

there's a sex offender moving in next to me, but were also close to a public playground, and we have 3 small children. I don't think they should be allowed to move anywhere around kids!

Only if they can starve or freeze to death! No amount of convincing can make me believe that these pieces of garbage deserve any sort of consideration or help, PERIOD!!!! They should be fried before they are released from jail. Touch my children - you will pay.
