Help me here. If I ran a recycle center, and people were bringing in rolls of new copper wiring or shiny copper pipe, I’d like to think my eyebrows would go up. To me, this is turning into a twofold problem. The thieves themselves, but the recycle centers that buy this “scrap.” Kinda like the “junkyards” that get busted for chopping up stolen cars.

Carl Wilburn, 30, of Larson Road in Felicity was arrested on Sept. 29 after he allegedly removed up to $50,000 worth of copper from Sidewinder Electric while construction was underway at the Southern Hills Community Center.

Wilburn was charged with felonious burglary. Wilburn has been released from custody on a $50,000 bond and charges will be bound to a Grand Jury.

According to Sheriff Dwayne Weninger, other charges are pending against other adults who may have been involved.

$50,000 worth of copper? How did he get caught? How much did that much copper weigh? Who would buy that much copper at once? Seems like some copper clad bullets are needed to slow this down.
