Okay, I can see the ban on smoking considering the effects of second-hand smoke, but what's the problem with fats? That is a persons chose on what he eats and I don't think anyone else suffers if you eat a douhnut. What, are they going to start shouting second-hand fat?

Fat Can Kill You
The next time you head for the nearest fast food joint think twice before ordering your favourite burger, as a new research has revealed that just one meal high in saturated fat can affect the body's ability to protect itself against some of the underlying causes of heart disease and stroke.
The research, conducted at The Heart Research Institute in Sydney, Australia, appears in the August 15, 2006, issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
According to the study, even a single meal high in saturated fat can reduce the ability of the body's "good" cholesterol, or high-density lipoproteins (HDL), to protect the inner lining of the arteries from inflammatory agents that promote the formation of artery-clogging plaques.
A single high-fat meal also can affect the ability of the arteries to expand in order to carry adequate blood to tissues and organs.
On the other hand, according to the research, eating a meal high in polyunsaturated fat, a healthier form of fat, can increase the anti-inflammatory properties of HDL, helping to protect the inner lining of the arteries, called the endothelium, from plaque buildup.
"The take-home, public-health message is this: It's further evidence to support the need to aggressively reduce the amount of saturated fat consumed in the diet," said researcher Stephen J. Nicholls, MB, BS, PhD, now a cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
"This study helps to explain the mechanisms by which saturated fat supports the formation of plaques in the arterial wall, and we know these plaques are the major cause of heart attack and stroke."
Saturated fats are found in both animal and plant products, and typically are solid at room temperature.
Examples include butter, lard and palm oil. The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association recommend that people limit their intake of saturated fat to no more than 7 per cent of their total daily calories. Polyunsaturated fats, on the other hand, come mainly from plants and are liquid at room temperature. Examples include sunflower and corn oil.
"In putting this all together," Dr. Nicholls said, "we have a difference between the two meals regarding a number of factors that influence the early stages of plaque formation. We have a situation where consumption of a single meal containing a high level of saturated fat is associated with impairment of vascular reactivity and impairment of a normal protective property of HDL. In contrast, consumption of a meal high in polyunsaturated fat results in HDL that is more protective.

Cancer, Heart Attacks, Strokes and Death in general are all pretty serious facts of life. I can tell you this from personal experience both past and present. (Except The Heart Attack)
I can ask you and you can quote me on this "Please Don't Mandate or Legislate My Life Style and choices"...
I choose to eat what I eat. I choose to smoke, I choose.
Please don't mandate or legislate my choices because someone else fails to yield a warning and or won't take responsibility for their choices they made.
This will sound cold because it is true but I am not responsible for anyones choices but my own. I except these responsibilities. I can tell you from experience the I do. If I lose my arm or my life from my choices be rested assured that I hold no other man responsible for what I have chosen to do. I will ask for help but I hold no one obligated to help me.
I just ask that you don't legislate my choices and my happiness.

Sure there are folks obligated to help you.
The doctors and nurses in the emergency room.
The surgeon who saves your life
The insurance company that pays your bill.
The rehab facility who takes care of you
The hospice where you spend some time

No man is an island in this world. Everyone's choices and lifestyle affects someone else.
So true. However Nurses and Doctors serve patients. No Patients no need for nurses and Doctors.
The purpose of laws is so that each others rights (Choices and Lifestyle) don't negatively impact another persons life. My eating donuts does not directly or negatively impact my neighbors lifestyle or choices.
I regret that I my have negative health issues from my choices but I except it as my responsibility.

.................these folks will never quit. When they get cigarettes banned, they simply move on to something else like this topic. I believe in choice.
One chooses to smoke, drink adult beverages, eat Big Macs, smoke dope or whatever you want & there is really nothing anyone else can do about it. That was tried back inthe 30's during prohibition.
It didn't work then & it won't now..........see ya at McDonalds someday...mark

Maybe they should hand this out at Mickey D's
Call 911 immediately if you experience:
Weakness or numbness of the face, arm or leg on one side of the body.
Dimness or loss of vision, particularly in one eye.
Difficulty speaking or trouble understanding speech.
Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
Unexplained dizziness, unsteadiness or sudden falls, particularly with any of the other signs.
Other danger signs
Sometimes the warning signs may last only a few moments, then disappear. These brief episodes are called TIAs -- transient ischemic attacks, or "mini-strokes." Because they are only momentary, people tend to brush them off as nothing serious. But they are. They are signals that something much worse could be on the way. Pay attention to your body and call your doctor immediately. It could save your life.

I can't see the point. If they make food service establishments stop using these fats are they then going to ban them from store shelves. We're talking margarines and oils?
You can't legislate common sense. People will still cook with these items at home.
It is a personal choice.
Even though I eat healthy most of the time I still like to have a big juicy cheeseburger once in a while. BTW, I recommend a cheeseburger from Hutchison's grocery. If more people knew about the burgers there, they would win "Maysville's best" every year. And I still eat a crispy creme once in a blue moon. I just walk a couple of miles afterwards, then I don't feel so guilty.
And to TheMan, I say "smoke 'em if you got 'em"

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette. Puff, puff, puff til you smoke yourself to death. Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate heaven will have to wait. Cause I just gotta have another cigarette.
Coronary heart disease and stroke - the primary types of cardiovascular disease caused by smoking - are the first and third leading causes of death in the United States. More than 61 million Americans suffer from some form of cardiovascular disease, including high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, stroke, congestive heart failure, and other conditions. More than 2,600 Americans die every day because of cardiovascular diseases, about 1 death every 33 seconds

Hmm... lemme think, I was gonna quit smoking, but the doc said "Why bother, the lupus will kill ya long before the lung cancer has a chance to take you" ... so imma enjoy it. Dun have to worry about the liquor, cause i don't drink liquor. I eat at the "baaaad" places, but I don't eat a double quarter pounder with bacon, super size fries, and a large diet coke. Cause believe it or not, the diet coke doesn't cancel the other foods out on the calorie scale...lmbo
And if you stole that donut from the man, dun hand it to me..lol... he can tell ya... i don't run well... he catch me!!
So how about we just hope in your 4 wheeler, and lose him in the woods...lol... DRIVE WOMAN DRIVE!!! ROFL!!!!

I just got a shot of cortisone in my right arm today for tennis elbow. It cost almost $2000 with some unique diagnostics. (A blood test and a Cat Scan). I am not sure which sport caused this so i am writing my congress man to get all sports banned. I am sure it was not Tennis.

The Do-gooders Are Taking Over!!!
Wow!!!! This is the first time I`ve ever been called a do-gooder.I know alot of people that would laugh you completely out of Maysville for that statement.I think you misunderstood me.I think everyone should have the right to make the choice of what they want to eat and if they want to smoke cigs. I smoked a pack and a half to two packs a day. I don`t smoke now - my choice- I shouldn`t be called names for this.Do I eat right -NO -my choice- I shouldn`t be called names for this either. I seemed to remember not to long ago a thread was shut down because of name calling. All I`m saying is if you have your chest cut open you feel differently about things.
Have a good evening, Roadrunner
