At least four people have died in severe storms that caused floods across Kentucky this morning.

Two women were swept away by floodwaters on Nicholasville Road about 2:15 a.m. today, Lexington Fire Batallion Chief Randy Gilliam said. A woman in Jessamine County died after she drove her vehicle into high water about 12:20 a.m.. And a driver died after skidding off Interstate 65 in Elizabethtown.

In Lexington, a cab was bringing the two women down Nicholasville Road and was stopped by water in the road. A witness told fire officials that the women got out of the cab and were walking through the water when they were swept away. Bystanders tried to rescue them when the women were swept into a creek that flows into an underground storm drain
