Here's what a visitor said in my blog:
http://www.maysvillexplorer.com/blog/1/entries/337/2006-9-Why-Is-Maysville-Kentucky-Cheering-Tennesee

I wonder why everyone in Maysville ignores the following quote at the end of this passage....

Once Southern Indiana’s interest in Pearl became known, a swarm of incendiary letters, faxes and calls poured into the USI athletics office from anti-Pearl Illinois fans. But Baker’s dossier outweighed the criticisms, and the school offered the beleaguered Iowa assistant his first head coaching job.

And so it was that the Jewish coach’s road to redemption would begin in Evansville, Indiana, on the banks of the Ohio River, where scarcely a synagogue could be found.

“It was South,” says Pearl. “***** it was a little too close to Kentucky.”

“It was way too close to Kentucky,” says Kim [Pearl]. “I didn’t care for it. It was a little too red neck. Very red neck.… My kids were the only Jews in their school. So when we had Jewish holidays, they had to go to school because school wasn’t closed.”

Interesting how he feels when he isn't recruiting a Maysville player, huh?

Sports rivalry is more entertaining than sports! :D

Wonder if all this hype would be the same if he went to Michigan, or Florida? What if he went to Louisville?
I was taught that there are 2 times when ya don't call my dad, one when he is eatin and the other when the cats are playin!!
I have a huge picture that was hand drawn and signed by all the ball players in 1976. It was a personalized picture given to my parents for my birth. It has my parents name as well as mine hanging on it. It hangs proudly in my BROTHER'S room... in FLORIDA...go figure.

Don't waste your money on a hit man.

Chris Lofton is close to being one of the BEST College Basketball players in the Country. Here is the big secret,,, he is from Maysville, Ky. and We like people from Maysville for some odd reason. Chris will go on from college ball and make a name that people in Maysville will be proud of.

So for right now we are taking the heat to support our own. WE ARE PROUD TO DO THIS. That would be for both Chris Lofton and Dustin Grutza. UK is not taking a back seat in our hearts Chris is just sitting up front. We are hoping well for Dustin too.

I think this holds true for everyone from Maysville, not just these two.

I have been a UT fan since I was born --- the neat thing about Chris bringing this support from Kentucky to TN is I've had family members and friends who live in TN say thanks for Chris. Though they aren't thanking me - but our community and state. I think it's pretty neat.

I was wondering why we haven't supported Dustin in the same manner. No bus rides, no press conferences, etc from my knowledge have been done. Maybe we should start pumping it up for him too!

I wish them well... as well as any other young athlete that goes and makes his or her place in the NCAA or NAIA sport arena.

GO VOLS! GO BEARCATS!

Dustin plays Football and we are a Basketball state.

I am not a sports fan either way. I am a Chris Lofton and Dustin Grutza fan. I watch as many of their games as televised. I will support anyone that gets a chance in sports that comes from our city. I do not care what team they play for.

For now it is the VOLS and the Bearcats.

Want to see a college basketball game ? Take a trip to Knoxville. Last year the Orange played 15 homes games and averaged 17,954 people in attendance. Of course the place has a capacity of 24,535. That means, on average, there is 6,581 empty seats. Last ears average home attendance top five were:
1. Kentucky 22,763 This place holds 23,000
2. Syracuse 21,587 This place holds 33,000
3. N. Carolina 20,239 This place holds 21,000
4. Louisville 18,316 This place holds 18,749
5. Tennessee 17,954 This place holds 24,535

No point here, just stating the facts

Doesn't really matter, Dustin Just plays on really, really, bad team. By him playing football it's hard for him if not impossibe to take over a game like Chris can at Tennessee. The Bear Cats will be ready by Grutza's senior year and then there will be some real hype.

All i can say is my family here enjoyed watching Chris and the Vols play last season. There was exictment in the air when they took the court and to me that is what it's all about. I also watched the wildcats and can i say that about every game the cats played NO. I am hoping that we have a better season here. But as for me. I will be tuning in to watch the Vols play and cheering Chris Lofton on!!

Go Chris!! And Go Vols!!!
