New IE hole targeted
Experts warn, that a new internet explorer flaw has been discovered.
The code was posted to public web sites, to be accessable to allow crackers to exploit vulnerable Windows based computers. Microsft has suggested users disable ActiveX, and active scriptiong controls for now.
This error is an ActiveX control related to multimedia featuers. A rigged web page is possibly the only way that it can be exploited, accourding to Symantec. A cracker could uses this to commandeer a Windows PC, or cause IE to crash.
Versions 5.01, and 6 are believed to be affected. Microsoft has noted the Windows 2003 running the enhanced Security Configuration is not affected FrSIST (French security Incident Response Team) has listed this as "Critical" - it's most serious rating.
