It will be a busy fall in Mason County.

College coaches will be coming and going in pursuit of Mason County star Darius Miller.

Miller will be coming and going, too.

Last weekend he visited Tennessee, now the college home of former Mason County star Chris Lofton.

UT Coach Bruce Pearl is expected to visit Maysville on Sept. 19, when he's arranged not one, not two, but three speaking engagements: the Rotary Club, at the Maysville Country Club and the Mason County Fieldhouse.

Miller is expected to visit Louisville and Cincinnati. Perhaps he'll visit Illinois and Indiana.

Xavier, Miami (of Florida), Clemson and Georgia expressed interest in Miller. Florida and Georgia Tech also called.

Kansas State Coach Bob Huggins and his former employer, Cincinnati, were expected in Maysville this weekend. "Which might be interesting," Mason County Coach Coach Chris O'Hearn said.

Moral of the story: Play well on the summer recruiting circuit, as Miller did this year, and see how the college coaches flock to your door.

"I don't think he's anywhere near a decision," O'Hearn said. "He's such a nice kid. He likes everybody."

Conveniently, Miller is a junior. He can't sign with a college until November of 2007. So he has time to ponder all his choices.

Kentucky? Oh, yes, Kentucky Coach Tubby Smith has offered a scholarship, which is in contrast to the indecision that marked the Cats' we-love-him, we-love-him-not involvement with Lofton in 2004. "He put it in writing," O'Hearn said of Smith's scholarship offer to Miller. "He wrote a note confirming their offer. He said they were real excited (about Miller) and said he could play in the program."

Miller is excited, too.

"They've always been one of his favorites," O'Hearn said of the place the Cats hold in Miller's mind. "And he thinks the world of Coach Smith. They're certainly one of his top three or four schools."

But Miller isn't rushing into a college choice. After his eye-catching play on the summer basketball circuit, he returned to Mason County and quickly got involved in pre-season football practice.

In fact, Mason County expects UK assistant Reggie Hanson to atttend football practice on Monday and speak to Miller.
