I have learned many new tricks with the Limestone Cable Visions HDTV box. I plan to share most of the Hack, Tip and Cracks with you for this box.

We will be working with the Motorola DCT6412 III box only not any other models of Motorola, TIVO and other name brands.

1st off let me say that these are not and will not be tips that will help you steal TV. The hacks, Cracks and Tips we will share are only functionality changes and adjustments. Not a copyright violation as we use existing code that already resides in the Motorola box. We are not adding too, changing or altering the original code in any way.

This box is provided by Limestone CableVision and is the Property of Limestone CableVision. If you damage the box in any way you will be buying a new box. I will not be buying a box, remote or any other hardware you damage. I think we have that fairly clear. (Have to have a disclaimer)

We will be cover the ever desired 30 Second hack.

Connecting a PC to the Motorola DCT6412 III and drivers will be supplied for the connection.

I have software that will allow you to change the channel and record SD and HD programs to you PC and or an external hard drive.

Will will help you find answers to questions you might have about your Motorola DCT6412 III as well as support for simple hook up.

Lets have fun and remember to keep it legal...

why not do what everybody else does, buy a $30 wintvr card, drag an old computer out of the closet (or use the one you have now), install the card, run mythtv.....which you can then network the "recording" computer, and stream it to any other computer on the network, and the saved shows/movies/umm dvds are displayed via a web page that you simply click to watch

several articles for reference:

Also, the Linux Home Projects 2 book has step by step projects for this with the required software on the included cdrom. (available via amazon)

Everyone is not doing that. It gets too complex for the end user. The thread is really about the Motorola DCT6412 III and ways to record to a PC from that equipment.

The hauppauge winTV cards are $99.00 to $149 and only one of them supports the Qam tuner needed for the High Def Channels. To match the Motorola DCT6412 III you would need 2 of these cards. The recording guide software and advanced recording feature work bes with Win. Media Edition.

Buy the time you factor in cards, 2.8 MHz PC and about 300 gigs of Hard Disk the expenses is just to high compared to the supplies equipment for the cable office.

you are correct on the hardware, I confused satellite signal with hdtv, but it can still be done for $160 for the card and a used computer, type of receiver doesnt matter - http://pchdtv.com/hd_3000.html - oh yea, you have to use linux cause they dont support windows....rotfl and because linux is more effecient than windows, the specs are much lower:
# IntelR PentiumR 1200Mhz or higher
# Linux Kernel 2.4.26+ (2.6.12+ highly recommended)
# Sound card.
# 256 MB RAM or higher
# CD ROM Drive
# One available PCI slot
There is a cheaper card for $129 - http://pchdtv.com/hdtv_linux.html
