Go to ebay and search for Maysville, KY and check out the 61 original photos of the bridge under construction.Wonderful pics
In the group of 14, the last one is construction of the toll house.
Wonder what the big building to the left of the toll house was ?

Those photos are just amazing. I just have one question. When did they quit using the bridge as a toll bridge? I for one never new the bridge was a toll bridge. Learn something new every day.

I believe it was 1944 or 45 when the bridge was FREED.
Big celebration, parade, etc.

Ok now I guess I'm asking for a history lesson. I'm 25 and didn't learn about any of this in my history class or I just didn't pay attention. When did the bridge actually open for the first time? It doesn't seem like it was a toll bridge for very long.

The bridge was built in 1931 and the tolls were removed in 1945.

25 Here also, but to answer the ? about the building to the left of the toll booth, it was a church....researching which one at the moment. Obviously it no longer exists, but was included in part of my History of Mason County class at MCC.

Did you ever notice there are 3 lanes on the Ky side of the bridge & only two lanes on the Ohio side??
The reason is.......the toll booth sat in the center lane on the Ky side till the bridge was freed. Then it was dismantled..........see ya mark

From Maysville, Kentucky, From Past to Present in Pictures, by Jean Calvert and John Klee, page 156.
There is a photo showing the Toll Booth, bridge, and area around it.
"The church in the center of the photo is the Central Presbyterian Church which was later torn down."
This book is available at the Mason Co. Museum.
Wonder when it was torn down and if the destructive '37 flood had a major part in it's demise a decade or so later? I can remember the crumbling buildings at the river end of Market street being torn down to create MacDonald Parkway.
