A recent court story out of Cynthiana talks about the high cost of electricity.

According to KU's filings, Wal-Mart could pay between $231,000 and $242,000 annually for service.

It contends Blue Grass Energy would charge between $324,000 and $367,000 for the same service.

These two electric companies are fighting it out in court to see who gets to provide service to the new Wal-Mart.

But it also shows just how much extra people in the rural areas pay for their electricity.

I have to use Fleming - Mason Energy, and they are way higher than KU which is located on the farm next to mine.

I agree FME is way too high!!! TRIPLE per KW!!! It should be illegal to pay more for the same electricity, and half the time i come home from work and there has been a power outage. I will tell you that if I ever come home and my dog has passed out from heat exhaustion because of their power failure, I would hate to be the pres of FME!!A

The Public Utilities Commission sets the minimum and maximum rates that a utility company can charge. Some charge the minimum and some charge the maximum.

The PUC does not control fuel prices. That is controlled by the Arabs and major corporation.

Either the way it is nice to know you are protected by the federal government to control the price you pay.

KU - energy 1 month, $60, the same Kwatt usage on
Fleming Mason Energy - $223.43

We are trying to buy a house, and have seen some beautiful ones that are on FME and we refused to buy it because of the high energy bills.

who cares??

Contact your utilities commissions and log complaints if enough people respond they may be able to get something done. Also if enough people contacted the better business bureau and the state attorney general to complain of price gouging something could get done. People will chat and email all day about these things but it takes an effort to research and contact the right people to get something done. Perhaps time spent on the internet could be put to better use!!!!

Kentucky utilities are located in highly populated areas RECC is usually in the farm or rural areas even though there may be some large clients their operation and maintenance costs are much higher costs than KU.
