Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park will have a grand opening for its new gift shop the weekend of Sept. 9-10.

Shoppers who purchase $50 or more in merchandise will receive a free book valued at $20. The new gift shop, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., is located in the lodge at Blue Licks in Robertson County. The park also has a full-service restaurant.

Also on hand will be several authors and artists who will be signing books and showing their art and craftwork.

They include: Reba Browning, author of “Reba’s Left Handed Cook Book” who will have food tasting and will sign her book; Larry Hill, maker of Poppy’s Salsa, will have samples to taste; Mariam Woolfolk, author of “Kentucky’s Covered Bridges,” will sign her book; Elizabeth Worley, maker of handcrafted baskets, will be making baskets; Brenda Jolley, artist of tin punch paintings, will be discussing her work; Garry Barker, author of “Mountain Passage,” will be signing books.

Also attending will be Jennifer Gleason of Sunflower Sundries, who will have homemade jams to taste and homemade soaps to sell; Mike Wagoner will be working on handcrafted walking sticks; Benita Lyons, author of “McCoy Cookbook,” will have taste samples and will sign copies of her cookbook. And local artist Herby Moore will be on hand to discuss his oil paintings.

Sam Stephens will be in period clothing portraying John Bradford, author of the Kentucky Almanac and editor of the state’s first newspaper, the Kentucky Gazette.
