On 16 August, a portion of the sun exploded, and ejecting a cloud of gas toward Earth. The earlist day that this cloud could hit us, is 18 August, rattling the earth's geomagnetic field. In turn this could triggur lovely Auroras as far south as Kentucky.
Keep on the look-out for the next few days, and enjoy the show, if you can :)

Although I've never seen one, It's my understanding that look in any direction, at any time of the night, since it's an all-sky, all-night thing. Lets say this. If it happens, you'll know it :).
There's also a way of photographing this too. If you can get an SLR camera, holding the shutter open for 15 seconds will also allow you to photograph any that may not be visiable to the eye as well.
