Hey all. Went to the Civil War Days at Washington and took a few pics. You can see them here if you want to look at them: http://www.pixagogo.com/2070815125 Ran into an old 4 wheeling buddy I hadn’t seen in awhile. He is in the third pic with Kim and her dad. He quit wheeling last year because it was too expensive and got into re-enactments. Anyway, I had a good time. Plus I just love to hear that noise.

I forgot to add that you could click on a pic to make it bigger. Then at the top left, click on original to make it even bigger. I had a ball. Listening to those guys was great. And they would talk and talk. Answer any question you had. The friend of mine had relatives in both sides years ago. Kim did too. Her (I don’t know how many greats) grandfather was wounded and captured in the war. The family paid $2000 to get him out of a Union prison in Louisville. I didn’t even know you could do that. These guys are great. And a wealth of knowledge to boot.

The battle is set to go off again tomorrow at 4 pm. There's a rumor that this might be the last Civil War weekend in Old Washington, so make sure everyone comes out if they can.

hmm. I am not much into the Civil War thing, but I may just go. We will be in town anyway... The kids might enjoy it.
Is there a cost? And if I just go to Old Washington, will I be ale to find it???

No cost and the a good portion of the street is blocked off for it. Just ask anyone there where the battle is.

So got any idea where a good place to park is?

I think it's called the "Old Church", but that's a good place to park. There's an "official" parking area on the right coming from the Marathon side. And many people park along side the main street as well. Pretty much follow the cars and park where you can.

Thanks for the pics TK. I forgot all about it. I love history now, but not when I was in school. It seems more interesting since I don't have to learn it, but want to. I participated in the re-enactment at Bluelicks years ago, doing some pioneer dances. That was fun.

All you have to do is wander around the center of town. The battle is in a field on the back street. Can’t remember the name. It’s the street that runs from St. Pat’s cemetery to the fire hall. And the event is free. I had to work last year. Kim said the crowd was WAY down this year. I’m heading to the antique machinery show up in Georgetown today. That is a big event. I keep wondering if maybe that drew some of the crowd away from Washington’s event.

Spent a couple of hours in ol' washington today. the town was full of them dag gum yankees.
i took some pictures, so you could see just how nasty it was.
when i left, there were two bodies lying in the street and some walking wounded.
i saw president Lincoln walk past the death and carnage like he didn't care about the death toll involved in the war.
i say bring the troops home and stop the killing.

They're obviously fighting over the corn. Before the war, corn prices were a modest $1 - $1.50 a bushel. Now it's an average of $3.00 a gallon (oops I mean bushel) of corn at every corner market!
The picture of the little boy says it all -- holding his head in despair... wondering "Why can't we just find an alternative to corn so we ain't gotta fight no more? Maybe potatoes. I like potatoes!"
Sadly, as long as we are, as President Lincoln says, "addicted to corn", the bloodshed will never end :(

Thanks for the great pics. We heard the cannons all afternoon since we live so close. If possible, you ought to go to Blue Lick's next weekend. That's when they have their battle re-enactment.

Nice pics. I even saw my buddy Darrel in the Confederate camp. I just love hearing those cannons go off. That little cannon on the Union side got stolen a while back. Kids tore it up pretty bad dragging it behind a pickup. They were using pyrodex powder and shooting pool balls out of it. Took the guy over a year to rebuild it. Had to have the gun magnafluxed and tested. Plus rebuilding the carriage. Kids got caught. Had to pay small fines, 300 hour community service, etc. Should have turned them loose and let those Rebs hunt ‘em down.
