As I expected, our Dell machine, who has never been on the internet, crashed majorly today. Requiring a total reinstall which I've got to do over the weekend.

I was telling a person a few days ago, about the difference between XP and 2k, and it seems to me, that the differences is apperently that XP was 2k, with a bunch of 'home' stuff (cosmetics, usless hand-holding, etc) bolted on. Much like they did with Win31 bolted onto DOS. So, it lead to the numerious problems XP has.

Either that, or this version is corrputed with all sorts of junk that Dell puts on their systems. I pulled all that off, the day it was here, but maybe I should have wiped and reinstalled Win2k on it.

Anyway, what's people's opinions on this, who's used 2k, and XP? I've not had nearly the problems with 2k, as I have with XP.

Just an observation, and courious

I’ve never had 2K, but XP was a huge improvement over 98. 98 used to lock up on me all the time. Wife’s XP ‘puter has never had a single issue with the operating system in 2 years. Mainly because I’m not using it. Both machines are on the ‘net but I have a habit of trying free programs and deleting them off if I don’t like it. That leaves a lot of junk laying around. I also use Norton SystemWorks. That slows down startups and resets tremendously compaired to my wife’s machine. I just have Avgast Anti-virus and CCleaner installed on hers. Both machines were custom built. Only the operating systems were installed. I’ve added all the other junk. We don’t do a lot of work with them. Mainly entertainment. Burn a few CDs or DVDs. Guess I really can’t help ya on the 2K stability.
