Louisiana has joined 21 other states in banning Internet hunting, the practice of using a mouse click to kill animals on a distant game farm.
The cyber-shooting idea was the brainchild of Texan John Lockwood, who started the web site http://www.live-shot.com.
The idea was this: Hunters sign up on the web site and pay some $1,500 or more. They schedule a session, then log on at their appointed time to watch a feeding station on the computer screen. The animal that was ordered—from wild hogs to antelope—is in the area, and when it approaches the food, the hunter moves on-screen crosshairs into place. A click of the mouse fires a rifle to kill the animal.
The armchair hunter's trophy animal would then be mounted and shipped for display.
Texas outlawed the practice last year.
Humane Society executive vice president Michael Markarian was pleased with the decision in Louisiana.
"Responsible hunters know there's no sport in shooting an animal remotely while lying in bed and wearing camouflage pajamas," Markarian said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, the game farm's web site now says hunters must come to the farm, where they "can now offer a unique hunting opportunity for disabled and handicapped hunters, as well as others, who may need the assistance of our system while hunting."

I have talked with many state representatives to express my personal opinion on why this needs to be banned. I am glad to hear that more and more states are banning it.

Like I've said in past posts, I'm not much for hunting anyway, but I love the tech behind it. If I could afford some step motors (several hundred dollars each and I'd probably need two), I'd build one myself that just takes web cam shots instead of bullet shots. I could link to some other applications of the tech but their not family friendly :(

Actually Leroy, it is NOT a game. You basically sit on your computer, and point your mouse and click it. However on the other end of those cross hairs is a REAL rifle and a REAL animal, when you click the trigger, the REAL gun fires and KILLS the REAL animal.
I am all for hunters that want to get up at the crack of dawn, sit in a tree or blind for hours, and kill and eat what they have waited a long time for. I am not for people wanting to sit at home and do this. What is the sport or manliness/womanliness of shooting an animal at a feeding station? It is not like it was out in the wild. If these animals at this facility want to run, they can only go a few feet before they hit chain link fence.
If this was a "game" I would just shut up about it. But it is not a GAME.

Foxy pretty much mirrored what I thought, and Chuck I'm thankful for the news, this sick "sport" is being outlawed slowly but surely. Thanks to both of you.
Although I'm not a hunter, I have no problems of true hunters, as Foxy said "I am all for hunters that want to get up at the crack of dawn, sit in a tree or blind for hours, and kill and eat what they have waited a long time for." The reason is, this is in line with the law of nature; Hunter=Preditor. I'm sure even the American indian wouldn't disagree with this. The ones who go about, and kill a deer, cut off the head, and leave the rest of the carcus lying in the woods, is ones I have problems with. As well as these so called Internet 'hunters'
I may not like to see people coming in, with a deer strapped to their hoods but at least I know it'll be dinner for a family for several weeks which makes it acceptable to me. I've met many, many hunters in the persuit of my job, and seen the trophies they have. They all have said the same; it was a preditory job, period.
Now what Jeremy proposed, I'd be more than happy to support. In fact, I wish there was sites like this. I've thought before, to setting up a web cam, infra-red or motion sensor, and record the deer, and other animals that come about the folks home Almost every night, they see deer, and the motion sensor lights are constently kicking on. I came within a meter of hitting a new-born fawn in the yard with the mower! Unfortunately this is one of those times, I didn't have access to my camera (nuts!)
A game? I'll stick with Dungans and Dragons, or Chess for a "game" Anyone up for a round?
Although this isn't exactly the same thread, I know of three software games, that really is a twist(ed?) version of this so-called sport of internet hunting. Anyone ever played "Deer Avenger 1, 2 and 3?" ;)
In this game, the human hunters, are now the hunted, by none other than BAMBO! A big stag, that's packing heat. It gets 4 hooves up, from the American Deer Association, Stag of Fortune says it's "Total Revenge".
Bambo saw his latest hot doe taken by a red-neck hunter guzzling beer, and now it's revenge! Packing 3 guns, and some of the best bait yells like "VIAGRA! GET YOUR VIAGRA HERE!", and "FREE BEER!" as well as a saying that may be a bit too risque for this BBS ;) It's up to you, to get all 7 "hunters" on your wall now, in picturisique settings such as Vermont in winter.
In Deer Avenger 2, "our hero is taken from heartbroken to h__l bent in the blink of an eye when a few moronic hunters turn his hot doe-date into road kill. What would you do-run for the woods and never come out? Cry like a fawn? No way bucko! You'd do what any self-respecting, testosterone-laden buck with high powered tranquilzer weaponry would do-follow those heartless rednecks back home and show 'em what vengeance is all about."
USA Today.com says "while an entertaining bit of fun, DEER AVENGER 2-like the original-reveals something deeply disturbing about the human psyche"
Deer Avenger 3 requires more power than my system is capiable of, but has a CGI Bambo, taking on more red-necked hunters from what a friend showed me awile back. Still a hoot. :)
I just found also, there is Deer Avenger IV! Hoo! Now the Red-necks strike back! :)
Oh...BTW folks. These ARE parodies, and meant to be funny, even if, they're as twisted as can be ;)
They are available still, as individual titles, and as 'Deer Avenger: Stag Party' (1st 3 titles in one box),

I'm with you Leroy.
If they are willing to pay $1500.00 to play........well.......they have too much money and time on their hands.
Or, maybe they are smarter than me...........I suppose it would be cheaper to pay $1500.oo to shoot it on the net, verses flying to TX, shooting that rascal in person & shipping it home............see ya mark

I am going to back away from this for a while. This post just frustrates me. I am not a "tree hugging" animal rights activist, but reading my previous posts on the BBS, including my response to this one, most can see that I am an animal advocate. And this is just outrageous. and again I say that this is NOT A GAME, not a video game, or a board game, or any other type of game. This is real bullets shooting real animals for the fun of it. I read their web page, and they don't send you the meat, so you are not doing it to feed a family. Anyway, I wipe my paws of this particular post for now. I said what I wanted to say.

It's a little bit different. Back then it was just marksmanship target practice. No live game. Now they are doing it with actual animals instead of cardboard targets.
