SEOUL, South Korea -
North Korea will respond to a pre-emptive U.S. military attack with an "annihilating strike and a nuclear war," the state-run media said Monday, heightening its antagonistic rhetoric.
The Korean Central News Agency, citing an unidentified Rodong Sinmun newspaper "analyst," accused the United States of increasing military pressure on the isolated communist state.
The North Korean threat of retaliation, which is often voiced by its state-controlled media, comes amid U.S. official reports that Pyongyang has shown signs of preparing for a test of a long-range missile.
"The army and people of the DPRK are now in full preparedness to answer a pre-emptive attack with a relentless annihilating strike and a nuclear war with a mighty nuclear deterrent," the report said. DPRK stands for the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The report accused Washington of escalating military pressure on the country with war exercises, a massive arms buildup and aerial espionage by basing new spy planes in South Korea.
North Korea routinely accuses the U.S. of aerial espionage, issuing a tally of such flights at the end of every month. The U.S. military doesn't comment, although it acknowledges monitoring North Korean military activity.

I can't blame Korea for wanting nukes...if I knew that at any moment some bully could decide they were going to come to my house and kill me and my loved ones I would want the most powerful weapon I could get my hands on to protect myself. And lets face it the United States has become nothing but a bully threatening anyone that doesnt agree with them. I say the U.S. needs to worry about the problems it has here at home and quit worrying about what everyone else in the world is doing.

Well i am worried but also, put yourself in their shoes. Look at what we did to innocent Iraqis. And we are still there, of course they are going to let anyone know that they will defend themselves. I am not "up to par" on this whole situation, however I feel that they are just letting the "bully" whoever that might be, that they will not sit by and be attacked.

Lets refresh everybodies memory a little. Back in 1950, North Korea got to feeling that they should flex their muscles a little and with the backing of China, envaded South Korea. Killing thousands of their own people, forcing them to embrace the China based communistic view. The people of South Korea asked for help and the United States, France, Greece, The United Kingdom countries, and I believe, even Italy spent five years in that country before the 38th parallel was established.
North Korea is an aggressive nation and has been for years. Later in the 60's, the United States had a ship seized by North Korea and they accused the crew and the United States of spying. There's no doubt that the U.S. ship was doing a monitoring of the North Korean government, but the ship was seized in International waters, not the territorial waters of North Korea as they claimed. The U.S. sailors were held and tortured for months before their release could be arranged.
The North Korean's are like a little viper sliding through the grass. Allowing them to develop nukes is like handing a loaded pistol to a person convicted of murder. Chances are that the convicted man will use that loaded gun to kill again and North Korea will likely threaten, if not launch a nuke if they have one.
Their current missle range takes in the countries close to it, but they want to develop a missle that will reach any part of the United States. This can't be allowed.
If The United States does not get involved in situations like the one developing in North Korea, then there won't be a United States. It's sad that we have become the policemen of the world, but having the resources and power that we do comes with a price tag.

Since we are reviewing the history of North Korea lets also examine the history of the United States...seems to me that we flexed our muscles and invaded quite a bit of land slaughtering thousands and forcing the survivors to live on reservations...good thing there was no one to police us back then.

You have to go back a little further than 1950. Try 1945, when the Allies divvied up Korea into North and South. It was the same for Viet Nam. Allies divided that into north and south. Civil war broke out in both countries as the communists tried to take back what we had taken away. They succeeded in ‘Nam. And China backed both of them. What always struck me as odd was that we considered North Korea and ‘Nam as enemies but embraced the real country that fought us. China. We embraced China and with our trade dollars, created this mess in North Korea. China is the only thing that has kept North Korea going. “Lil” Kim is a paranoid monster. He has starved thousands to build these weapons. He’s no different from any third world dictator. But he is not suicidal. He will not use any of these weapons against us if we keep our nose out of his business. But he has also seen how much we offered Iran to stop their nuclear fuel processing. He wants some of that money from us. This missile test is a bluff. If fired and even if it is successful, “Lil” Kim knows we will throw millions at him to not build another. It’s extortion, pure and simple. But the people in this country can’t see the “big picture.” We are mad at North Korea. Why are we not mad at the people that allowed him to flourish? Our very own politicians. They still support trade with China. The country that funds this madman.

This can go 2 ways.
1. Allow them to test and play wait see.
2. A full scale invasion of N. Korea.
Anything less and that guy will do something. His current missiles can reach many of our allies if not further.
The best way to handle this and it should have been done 5 years ago is tell China to take care of their kids. If they done we stop all trade China and other N.Korea supporting countries. And be ready to deal with the financial impact on our country if we do stop trade.
Economics tells me that these countries have waited for this moment. The USA in a major debt, Dependent on foreign goods for it's survival. Involved in other wars that have drained on our resources.
Here again I am no expert and this is how I see it. It will take a new innovative way to deal with this situation. If we are truly civilized like we preach then full scale invasions are not an option.
Embargo's have failed. All diplomatic resources have failed. We are to broke to send them cash to buy them off and that won't work cause N. Korea is not broke and doesn't need the cash.
Really if we were not such the "big bully" on the play ground other countries might want to play with us. We are just to demanding and it will lead to our fall.

We could stop this, but this bunch of politicians that have been leading this country for years won’t. They still think (Mistakenly) that the U.S. military is the answer to everything they don’t like that happens outside this country. The first step would require being honest (Fat chance) with the citizens of this country. That China is funding North Korea. That we need to put tariffs on all Chinese made goods that come to this country. And that these tariffs will hurt everyone in this country because we can no longer support ourselves. The tariffs need to be 1, high enough that the people stop buying Chinese imports. And 2, force the factories in China to move somewhere else. I doubt they’ll come back here. If China were to lose the income from this nation for a few weeks, I feel they would tell “Lil” Kim to stop his nuclear ambitions. One phone call from China could shut down North Korea’s ambitions of developing a missile to hit us. But OUR politicians are a pack of lying cowards. It’s become way too easy for them to send our military out to fight and die in THEIR screwups. And we keep putting these monsters back in office time and again. I’ve said it many times before. I don’t know how to educate the voters in this country to what their leaders are really up to. The tunnel vision of the majority of these voters amazes me.

I agree that China is the main player in this issue. I also agree that out politcians will not address this issue correctly. I also agree that the main issue at hand is money. North Korea wants U.S. dollars and sees this as a way to get their hands on some fast cash. China in turn will more than likely receive some of this cash through backdoor payments made to them by Korea.
Sending in the Military is not the correct answer for this issue. Placing tariffs has been the answer to a lot of these issues in the past, but they are slow in action and sometimes fail. Our own people have money invested in these countries and their voices guide our politicians. Would placing a complete ban on all products made by China and North Korea work? Maybe. But here again our own business groups would put out such a cry that our politicians would never go there. Think of all the items that you buy on a day to day basis that has "Made in China" or "Made in Korea" stamped on it. You see very few items that carry the stamp "Made In America" anymore. The general public has played a role in this situation as well, our search for finding items that cost less. But even when we know that an item made in either country is normally less in quality, we still go for the dollar sign and buy the darn thing. It's sad, but it appears that the general public, myself included has helped place ourselves in this situation. But even in times when I try my best in buying only items made in our own country, you can't find them. So what do you do?

My truck is made in America. Mexico. That’s just it. We elect politicians to do the right thing. The key point being we. We no longer care or know what our politicians are really up to. Those politicians have gotten waaay to many of our finest killed in their quest to please big business. But big business can’t put a politician in office. WE do. The voters in this country don’t care or understand about world affairs. They don’t have a clue about cause and effect. If they did, not one politician would get re-elected. So, when you get right down to it, WE THE VOTER are getting our finest killed in senseless wars because we are ignorant of world affairs. North Korea has been working on this for a long time. With support from China and technology from our new best bud, Pakistan. Who if you forgot, created the Taliban, which started Al-Qaeda. You just wait and see. I bet these same monsters get re-elected in droves again this fall. By us.

That is such a true statement....
So, I guess most want us to sit back and wait to see if they really have a nuke that can hit, oh lets say ....anywhere on OUR western state line.
I have sat back and listen to some say how mean the US is and that we keep beating up on different countries, but why is it everyone wants to come here and live. Mark my words, the first time WE (Americans) get invaded and the invaders come in and take your wives and daughters, I am sure the same people will be screaming....how could our government let this happen.
I am an ex air force brat, I remember going to many reunions with my father and grandfather and hearing the other side of the stories, not just what the media wants you to know.

Looks like we did just that. We didn’t/couldn’t stop them from launching now did we? Sat back and watched. Just like we did for Russia, China, Pakistan, India, etc. And as far as people coming here, most are trying to escape despicable governments. And a lot of those governments are our “friends.” Those people don’t really want to leave.
