With the explosive growth of linux, a lot of the software originally written for linux is now being ported to Windows. Thats the greatest thing about open source software - choices. Many of you probably use software, originally designed for Linux...such as firefox (based on Linux Mozilla), a lot of internet chat programs, openoffice (based on Linux StarOffice), etc. Anyways, I found this web site....which is a downloaded cd full of excellend free software for Windows and Mac users. Don't have the money to buy photoshop, yet don't want to run linux....try gimp. Don't want to buy adobe illustrator, try inkscape. Don't want to buy dreamweaver or frontpage, try nvu. Lots of software I am sure you will enjoy.

SSS Enhances the computing experiences by providing an easy way to install free, high-quality software titles via a user-friendly interface.

Software for Starving Students (http://mirror.softwarefor.org/) is a compilation CD of the best of freely available software for both Windows and Macintosh computers with a mind towards usefulness for students and educators, though most anyone could make use of the software included in this elegant package. The list of included software (http://mirror.softwarefor.org/ad_lazarum_packages.html) is simply astounding, including both Open Source and simply free software.

"We created the SSS CD because we love Open Source software and want to help make it more accessible to students all around the world. Although all students need good software to be successful, many have a hard time getting it on student budgets. We empathize with them because we’ve felt that pinch ourselves. This software enables students to achieve more for less, and that inspires us. People all over the world are using free software to make their lives better."
