I have been teaching several open-source software courses through the Maysville Community & Technical College and also putting together custom training for several businesses. Teaching is a very rewarding job, and I will hopefully have my full teaching certification soon.

From the time I started teaching, I wanted to extend what I know (and what I have learned from teaching) and offer courses to others. The members of the Maysville Linux Users Group knew I was working on offering computer courses and training via distance learning software (like going to college but from your house and during your own schedule). Putting together custom courses from scratch takes a considerable amount of time....and with the rapid development of open-source software, about the time I was getting a course finished, a new version of the software was coming out. Its been a long uphill battle the last 2 years.

Finally, I have several/many courses ready and many more being worked on. You can currently take these courses absolutely free of charge via the MLUG Distance Learning Project - http://www.maysville-linux-users-group.org (http://www.maysville-linux-users-group.org) Other courses are also available for a fee to both users, businesses, workforces, and MLUG members.

These courses are for both windows and linux users, with the only Linux specific courses being the Unix courses. Enjoy!!!

Those sound interesting. I was a mainframe programmer for over 40 years before I retired but never got involved in PC's at all. I am right now running a dual boot Ubuntu/Windows XP (getting rid of Windows gradually) and live out of the Maysville area. Any options for me to get good stuff from there? How do I contact and how do I get more info?

you can register for an account on the web site (registration is free). After you confirm your registration, you can then login to the classroom and start taking the courses. Any course that has a little key icon is not completed, but there are several that are completed and ready to go. All courses are free, even if they say otherwise (I got tired of people emailing me for a registration key on courses that weren't ready or finished, so I simply set that course up so it looks like it costs money to take it (even though it doesn't)....and that stopped the emails)
